Base model comes with an ls1 block and ls6 intake.

C5Zo6 comes with an ls6 block/ls6 intake/ls6 heads/ls6 cam/better oiling.

Of course there is more to it, but that is the basis.

I believe that you will find that the 02 ls1 uses the same block as the ls6 (diff heads and cam) and of course the rest of the short block is the same between the ls1/ls6.

better oiling I never have heard of that where did you get this info? my understanding is that the only diff outside of the heads after 2001 was the cam and the computer tune and that even the oiling componets were carried over to the base ls1.

The ls6 has slightly better oil flow and in the main webs between the cylinders there are cutouts that are supposed to allow the air to flow from one cylinder pair to the other at high speeds to prevent too much pressure on the underside of the piston. GM said it's supposed to alleviate some of the parasitic draw that pressure below the piston in the crankcase causes at high speeds.

LS6 block has better bay-to-bay breathing than the earlier LS1 block also. the blocks have a hole machined thru the main webs to improve bay-to-bay breathing. the hole cures the bay-to-bay oil vapor pumping issues
I read an article or something of the sort at one point. Research a littlie and you will find plenty of info on it.

coup & convertible LS1 = 350 HP

Z06 LS6 = 405 HP

I thought the 02-04 C5 came with the LS6 block, but with LS1 pistons and LS1 heads/cam/intake

yes but in 2002 the block used in all corvettes was the ls6 block ie it replaced the ls1 block with the new design. so I'm not debating if the ls1 and ls6 blocks are diffrent only that in 2002 all corvette blocks were ls6
