C7 Vette to get all new small-block!?

Default C7 Vette to get all new small-block!?

I was reading through a Motor Trend article and they were talking about how GM is investing $890 million into this new small block program for the C7 vette. It will be around 5.5 liters, all aluminum block and heads like the LSx, same overhead valve events, etc but suppose to be very inexpensive and produce around 440hp... They said that there are test mules running around Detroit with them in now. Anyone here anything on this or have any more info? I did not see any other threads about this so I thought I would see what others had to say.

You are 99% right the Corvette uses a regular cam set up hence its called a push rod, over head cams are reserved for foreign engines.

But I did read it and it is supposed to be capable of 700 hp in stock configuration. The engine is the engine being used right now in the Le Mans series Corvette which came down from a 7L to a 5.5L and still has the same amount of HP and TQ across the band with the smaller cubes.

I was at an event with a new ALMS C5 on display and it's 5.5L is an LSx derivative. It is not a new motor.

As far as the new small block, time will tell what it is. Personally I am betting it is being based off the Nascar V8 GM recently developed. If they hadn't stated the project cost, I would have just thought it was an LSx motor with a revised head and DI. It's not like the General to scrap a motor as young as the LSx series, but it looks like they may do just that.

Im in Metro Detroit and see lots of vehicles with the Camoflage padding etc strapped on them and logging miles. Have yet to see the new vette yet? The new motor is probably installed in a stock looking / sounding c5 or c6. That way they can just drive it without being noticed much.

For sure and with only 440hp to show for it, It could easily be hidden...

hey 02 c5, MY BAD, I MEANT TO TYPE OVERHEAD VALVE AND NOT CAM....
**** happens when you are tired. obviously its not a mustang anyway....
That would be sweet to find one of these test beds with the engine and check it out. Do you guys think they will keep the same LSx style intake manifold or go with something else since everyone and their momma has problems with lean #7 & 8 cylinders on high HP apps???
