Default C5 z06: Should I get 3:90 or 4:10 gears

I feel that my gears are too tall. Did anyone on here get different gears? How do you like them? How much mpg did it cut and what is your rpm going ~75 in 6th? Also noise or probs with new gearing?

Also, off topic. How far can I slam the car on stock suspension. If i want to slam it until the last thread, what shocks do i need?

Both are good options. If it was me, I would get the 3.90's. Also, Bilstein Shocks are great if you plan to lower. Just my .02. Good Luck.

z06's are geared short in 1st 3 gears as is so 3.90 will be like 4.10 in a regular t56.

...never been a big fan of slowing a cars terminal velocity,..so id go with a 3.73 or less but the answer is more dependant on your horsepower capability and use of car. Every steep geared car that jumps out on me,...I'll be right there, sailing by them as they're shifting gears two to one faster cause of the steeper gear. but again, depends on purpose of car.

and you can lower the car on stock suspension a lot. you can also grind away some bushing material on the front two bolts, and get another half inch or so. If you want the ****, buy some adjustable shocks, or go buckwild, and get some coilovers. That's the best,...and by far one of the best mods I've ever done to my car and others.

To go along somewhat with what V-series is saying, I would ask what your goals are for the car. If you plan on road racing or autocrossing it, most of the owners I talk to shy away from gears because it results in to many gear changes. Are you primarily planning on driving the car on street tires? If you are and start adding power to the car, the already low 1-2 gears in the M12 tranny may start to make traction very scarce.

I planned on going with 3.90's until I installed the TFS heads and bigger cam. With the GForce KD 295's 1st and 2nd were pretty useless on the street. The current R2's hook up awesome, but I'm hesitant to gear it. Sure at the track with sticky tires and prep a set of 3.90's or 4.10's would yield an improvement, but the car isn't driven there 99% of the time. And I'd rather have the car be enjoyable for the way I drive it the majority of the time. Fighting to get the car going wasn't much fun.

I would leave the 3.42's and spend your money on something more worthwhile. Too me on a C5Z, with the lighter weight and trans gearing, doing the gears is a waste.
btw I went 11.96 at 117mph with a cai and et streets with a crappy 1.8 60' time.

Gee,thanks for accepting the clarification there cowboy! Only a idiot would think the car was stock (other than Gary's) when it's running 10.40...thus the grin and a wink.

If you are going for a drag car and running some sort of tires all the time the do gears. If its a street car and something you like to drive regularly dont do gears. The more power you have the less gear you will want. More gears on a car without tires is just spinning.
