I've heard of failing valves on that model. They'll crack under stresses. I know of 2 cases where they were on Dynos getting a baseline and they failed. I've also heard some brake related complaints when driving the brakes really hard. Not something you'll probably see unless you were on a road course.

Tune it

There's 20-25 rwhp hiding in that GM calibration.

So far on my 2008 I've replaced the exhaust valves (now running Ferrea Super Alloy), the valve guides (from stock iron guides to bronze), the oil pump (running the Katech pump now), and, of course, the valve springs because of the higher-lift cam. All of those were potential failure points, although instances are rare on an unmodified car. Rocker arms in some 2007 models were prone to lose needle bearings. The last potential point of failure is the hyper-eutectic pistons where detonation could crack them. That's generally with a modified car running too lean, though.

There are multiple discussion threads in the C6Z section of Corvette Forum about this. It is a constant source of heated debate. Failures are few and far between, though. Depends on what you plan to use the car for.

In 2009, the cars got the higher capacity sump tank for the oiling system (leveraged from the ZR1) and many who regularly track them are modifying the earlier cars either with an OEM retrofit or with an ARE setup. Some also change the radiators to the DeWitts models for better cooling.

Again, what are your plans for the car? Road racing, drag racing, mostly street?

Yes, easily with a blower at 6-8 PSI. But, you'll have a ticking time bomb unless you beef up the motor and take care of the weak spots. Pistons are hyper-eutectic and can break under too much stress. GM themselves said the LS7 was at the peak of reliable performance at 505HP. That's why there have been zero bumps in power since its inception. You can also do it with heads/cam and accompanying mods, but you will sacrifice a significant amount of drivability to get there unless you went with E85.

CAI/tune and some good tires would be the first things. maybe add a ported TB/Intake after that. I wouldnt do a blower or TT unless you build it..... be ready to spend some cash if you want t do it right......

Heads and Cam is an option too. you can get 550whp with a nice mid sized cam that will still drive very nice... upgrade those valves if you touch those heads and bronze guides.
