Default How safe are GTO spares to run up front?

Would it be safe to run 04-06 GTO spares with the factory temporary tire up to 125-130 mph drag racing? They are rated for 81 mph according to the tire designation. I've heard of some running them but how safe?

I looked at the M & H belted 17" front runner and it's lighter and feels weaker than the temporary radial on the GTO wheel. Wonder what mph the M & H is rated?

Not sure, I have run 135mph many times. They run very true and smooth. I am sure they are rated a lot faster than I run.

I'm sure a skinny tire is rated 130+....It's a tire meant for high speed drag. I'm sure the manufacturer would be able to provide that info though.

I wouldn't risk a high speed blowout running a spare...

This says the GTO spare tire rating is M which is 81 mph: http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/a...y/temptire.png

I was speaking about the M&H.

I wouldn't risk running a spare because it is definitely NOT rated for that speed....in this case 81 mph.

Plenty of people run those on c6's. My friend runs them and traps 133mph and has no problem with them.

I would think the rating of 81 mph would be sustained speed at a certain temp for a period of time. As long as it is not overloaded (C5 is reasonably light) I wouldn't think the actual speed while drag racing would be a factor.

Not sure how long they would last driving to and from the track though.

Hi Larry.

I know I don't have nowhere near the fastest car but I sure feel safer with my M&H frontrunners mounted on my GTO spares. I would rather be safe than sorry. Just my .02
