Keeping up with the the new Vette's...

I realize this isn't a newsflash or anything, but from what I understand the new C6's are dynoing about 350rwhp bone stock. What is their curb weight? Not sure if they are heavier or lighter than the previous C5, but I saw a post on Corvetteforum where a guy put down 385rwhp w/ just the addition of LT's and a Vortex or something like that? Not sure what the vortex is but I am assuming it's just an air intake.

I am assuming I will need at least 370rwhp to stick with a bone stock one on the highway (I am adding LT's, orp + 224 cam so hopefully that won't be a problem) but if they add just LT's I would need 400+... meaning the addition of heads to stick with just the mildly modded ones.

And damn, I Can't wait to see the numbers the new Z06 will be putting down. lightly modded C6 Z06's will probably be out of my reach unless I go FI...

Geez, It's getting harder and harder to keep up with these new cars. Don't get me wrong I am glad the American muscle is upping the ante to stay ahead of the 4cyl turbo revolution but between the two it's getting expensive to play catch up!!

Anyone have any first hand experience with a C6?

I've been thinking the same way. That is why I have some GTP S2 heads on the way.

The C6's are going to be fast. I don't know their curb weight and probably don't want to.

Yeah, they didn't save much weight in the new C6.

KB99WS6 Oct 25, 2004 02:24 PM

So they still got at least 200lbs on us. Aint that a bitch....

So are my estimations about right that I would need at least 20-30 more rwhp to hang with one b/c of the weight and aero advantage??

Ling_650vette Oct 25, 2004 02:32 PM

Depends on the driver, but more hp definatly wouldnt hurt :D

:) :)

Like for example, if it was a race from a stop and pdd was driving the vette, I wouldn't even have to bother with the cam, lol

Just kidding dude, I couldn't resist.

get a magnacharger and make them play catch up

busavette Oct 25, 2004 09:46 PM

I put h/c,intake&lt's,I gotta little hp edge, the stock c-5 hp is a joke,gm's vette hp is always behind with hp, look what the other american car companies come out with hp on first try,ie viper.

You can have the Viper. A buddy of mine let me drive his GTS for a day. After 45 minutes, I took it back. That thing is a chore to drive. It's hot, it's uncomfortable, visibility is bad, it rides like a log waggon.

GM is right on with the Vette. The just upped the HP ante, so are you in or out?

See, I really didn't want to know. My fat Z28 sits at around 3700 pounds.

When you start getting as fast as the new Vette, or modded C5's / F-bodies, it becomes alot about the driver. Getting a car 0-60 in sub 5.0 seconds takes some skill. HP isn't everything.

KB99WS6 Oct 26, 2004 07:16 AM

3700 lbs?? Damn, Sounds like your car has been eating too much rice and you need to put that thing on the Atkins diet or something. Do you have a big stereo in it or something? I thought our cars were in the 3400-3500 range. I assumed the WS6's like my car are the heaviest??

Snow Dog Oct 26, 2004 06:07 PM

why would a ws6 weight more? the hood isnt metal for one. power seats werent availible either. there really is no weight difference in the fbodies, well not enough for it to matter. convertibles are a different story

KB99WS6 Oct 26, 2004 06:12 PM

Well very simply b/c a WS6 is pretty much fully loaded (Mine i think has every possible option) + full ground effects and the Ram Air hood. (is the R/A hood actually lighter than a regular TA or Camaro hood?). I didn't think it was a huge difference, but I figured all in all it was still the heaviest of the bunch...

KB99WS6 Oct 26, 2004 06:36 PM

I did a little looking around and it looks like my car is around 3500 lbs in stock form. that means these phuckin vettes have a 300lb advantage...damn thats a lot of ground to make up. Need to look into lightening now I think...

A new C6 ran a 12.3@114 at a local track down my way

REDGAR Oct 26, 2004 10:25 PM

Saw one go 11.73 with headers, exhaust, et streets and C5 rear at E-town this weekend

TORCHD U Oct 26, 2004 11:54 PM

I think we have a monster on our hands :)

Slowhawk Oct 27, 2004 07:56 AM

Who's scared of a new Vette beating them  One word---- Supercharge it
