rear end difference between c5's and f bodies

i know the f bodies have 10 bolt rear ends, but what do c5's come with, all i hear about is how shitty the 10 botl is, i was just wondering if the c5 had the same problem. thanks

Isn't the F body a live rear axle, where as the Vette is an independent leaf spring trans-axle?

The C5 has an independent rear suspension. The transmission is in the back of the car and it bolts to the rear differential.

The C5 rear is MUCH better (stronger) than the Camaro 10 bolt. There is no real replacement for the C5 rear like there is for the Camaro (i.e. 9 inch or 12 bolt etc) so all the C5’s you see running 11’s, 10’s, and 9’s are doing so on the stock rear with a few upgraded parts. They hold up pretty well. There are a few really fast C5’s with solid rears, but these are the exception and are in or close to the 8’s.

There have been more and more guys on the CF breaking differential parts lately. Both output shafts and cracked cases seem to be the big problem areas with the C5 IRS.

I agree with the above. However it should be mentioned that the cars breaking rears are M6s for the most part. The A4s seem to hold up much better.

Good point. The M6 cars are having more problems than the auto guys.

Nice time in your sig. How agressive is your h/c setup?

They have a tranny brace to solve the problem with breaking. Most guys like myself need one lol. The output shafts are another downside. I will say this though when you go to upgrade your rear with gears or something most like myself also have them put in hardened output shafts. With the DTE Brace on they hold up pretty well.

All depends on your power level. I know guys running botton 10's that can't keep Rosslers together, guys that are on their 5th convertor and others that can't keep the diffs together.

The DTE strut brace is to help prevent the diff from taking out the trans.. That's about it.

No 'buy once' solution to C5 driveline parts, unless you are talking about back-halfing the car.
