New Vette whats the best air box and other cheap mods? I just got a almost New 01 m-6 vette and was wandering what the best air box is. I heard the Zo6 air box was pretty good and cheap. Also does the throttle body have the same problem as does the F-bodies with it not opening all the way?
One more thing how much RWHP do the 01 Vettes make?

Yeah the Z06 system will probably be the cheapest option, esp being its a directly stock replacment, and probably wont void the warranty, but you've got other options like the VaraRam, Halltech, Vortex and Blackwing along with K&N and Volant.
And i dont think the throttle bodies share the same problems. And as to the RWHP #s, review some of the other posts along this section of the board, you'll find a few C5 owners sharing dyno #s, but for a "rough" estimate take your stock hp rating, and take 15% off that. Thats a decent base, but its not exact.

Re: New Vette whats the best air box and other cheap mods? Corvetteforum is an informative source, but quite honestly they're most informative about Zaino, airboxes and cat-backs. Dont expect to find the information that the hard-core DIY-er is looking for .
For an airbox, I'd buy a used blackwing. In fact, I did. I'm trying to get a couple more mph out of my car, so I'm going to switch to the vararam this year. I dont believe the ram air myth, but I do believe it's the best system for getting cold-air into your engine. Is it worth the money? Maybe, I've heard enough good results to try it for myself.
I dont think the throttle opening is an issue, but if I get a chance soon I'll see what it looks like on my '99.

Re: New Vette whats the best air box and other cheap mods? 66 Impala, you don't believe the ram air "myth"? hmm this has been around for years and all the mfg's have used.. most notably Pontiac.. but all of them have their variation... as do most of the hight end crotch rockets.. so i for one disagree withtthe myth statement.. and by the way i picked up almost 3pmh with just a Vararam with the Z06... hmm... thats not myth material there...

Re: New Vette whats the best air box and other cheap mods? Chicago, so hook up a boost guage to your intake or autotap log your MAP sensor for us over a 1/4 mile.

Re: New Vette whats the best air box and other cheap mods? I dont believe you can make positive pressure at automotive speeds. Thats why I call it a myth. What I believe is that you can make it easier to reach atmospheric pressure, which is why we upgrade the intake in the first place.
Atmospheric is about 80kpa where I live. Most places its around 100. You want wide open throttle to reach this number, in other words zero vacuum. Thats where the most power is for a fuel injected NA engine. I'm not there yet, but I think the vararam might help.
