A few newbie questions about C5's

Hey all-

Just bought my '00 C5 three days ago. I was reading a couple days ago about all of these small tricks the car's able to do - like turning the key three times to pop the hatch, etc... and can't seem to find the page anymore. Sure, I have the owner's manual, but I'd still like to bookmark that link.

If anyone's able to help me out with finding that link, I'd highly appreciate it.

What seems to be the going rate for a clutch install? Z06 clutch a good option for a mildly modded C5? LUK? (Just something I've seen on ebay, and has come up on some googled pages. Anyone in the Chicago area that needs to make some cash? ;)

Also- what would be the popular option for an intake, (without a procharger behind it - that's for later), and exhaust? I've owned a GTP for about 2 years, and put it into the mid 12's, let's see where I can get this C5. :burn:

Any other curious things I might need to know - please spit 'em out!

Thanks in advance-

congrats on the new toy  check the corvette faq's on the top of this section, and also try a search for easy hp mods, like the zip tie mod, and tb bypass, cutouts or exhaust, ect.. the headers are expensive for these cars and you'll find that we have to pay the "corvette tax" on alot of things....... if I could give you one piece of advice it would be to MOD THE DRIVELINE before you do anything else, get a dte brace, hardened output shaft, and a good clutch, mcleod, spec, ect.., w/ that done then you can consintrate on any mods you want and you will be able to use all the potential power of your car w/out easily breaking things...

Since you have a 00 model you might want to get yourself a Z06 intake for the car..they are good for aprox 15 Hp and make a lot of other mods work better too...all Corvettes and F Body cars built 01 and later have the Z06 intake on them..a low cost mod that only take a couple of hours to do.

I've got the Z06 airbox on my 98, and it didn't give me 15hp. I dynoed the car before and after and got an extra 10rwhp, but I attribute most of the gain to the fact that I put in new spark plugs (the old ones were gapped much too high and causing 7 degrees of KR) and got the tuning redone too.

I would say that a Z06 airbox is only worth a couple of horsepower. I even dremelled the opening on mine so it was bigger!

The stock airbox is obviously not much of a restriction to airflow if the rest of the engine is still stock.

Not The Air Box. Intake The Intake. Hell With The Air Box.

I am talking about the intake manifold not the air box..JRP said that he dynoed his car after he installed the intake and he actully picked a couple more than 15 HP.. :)

I beg to differ! My car feels tremendously faster after I added a Ram Air setup (Vararam). I do agree though, that when you add an open element filter without cutting a hole in the radiator shroud or adding Z06 front duct screens, you won't see much of a gain. :)

Thanks for the info - now... how about that cost of that clutch? I kinda wanna do that first. (even despite the fact that I already ordered the Z06 intake and K&N, along with a set of D/S rotors )(needed them anyway). I've done the zip-tie mod on other cars... and it's just a bit ghetto for my likings.. lol.

Thanks again-

My first mod was a Vararam CAI. never dyno'd it, but the difference was noticable almost immediately by SOTP. most notably on the freeway at 60+mph.

I'd be happy to... if I knew how much an install is gonna cost me. lol I'm a broke dude right now, and need to know what I'm gonna end up spending, besides the $3-400 in parts.

I really kinda wanna do the slave, remote bleeder, the works.. and I don't wanna have to do it again for a long damn time.
