Don't understand intake

i'm a huge noobie. just bought a vette, its got this air intake in it. See that bung on the left? i don't know know why it is there, and i don't think it is good that it is a straight shot, bypassing the filters. Doesn't that mean unfiltered air is getting in? should i plug it?

That's where the A.I.R. pump hose connects to.

CorvetteUSCG Feb 14, 2006 05:53 PM

so do i need to put that in it?

i know close to nothing about cars.

CorvetteUSCG Feb 14, 2006 06:05 PM

does it not suck air in through the hole? or does it just blow out air to the air pump?

Richie Carbone Feb 14, 2006 06:13 PM

It supplies fresh air to the Air Injectior Recirculation pump that is part of the emissions system.

When you remove the stock intake you will see the hose attached to it, just connect it to the new intake.

problem solved. just need a hose clamp found the hose. I wonder how long that has not been there...

do you think damage could have occured to the motor from unfiltered air?

Richie Carbone Feb 14, 2006 06:59 PM

Not really, but at the least I would change the oil immediately just to be safe.

Richie is all over this one.
And I agree, change the oil.

CorvetteUSCG Feb 14, 2006 07:37 PM

What's 50 bucks compared to having to rebuild the motor? :thinker:

The oil is like a window into the motor, if it comes out clean you're good to go.

It's just cheap peace of mind.
