Default Should I just buy a 01+ Z06 and drop in a LS7

I was thinking now that corvettes are pretty cheap ive seen Z06s for 25-30k highest. in a few years they will be cheaper, and they are getting traded in like *****. Anyways I was thinking of buying a older Z06 and just dropping in a LS7? Everything would bolt up all the same since its a LS block id assume, and it might only need a tune if anything only thing thats really different is the CI heads cam etc, correct me if I am wrong. But just thinking of a ls7 corvette build up for my next car. Def save about 50+ thousand then buying a new Z06 for a rip off 80 grand.

If you are going to go through the trouble of swapping in an engine then get an even older, non z06 to save more $$.

Also imo I wouldn't go with an LS7... there are plenty of companys that can build you a better motor for less $$$$ then an LS7 would cost you.

Ditto.

& there is a schlew of things you will need to make the swap: LS7 computer, harnesses and all kinds of miscelaneous parts to make the price skyrocket.

Build an aftermarket LS7. You can convert it to wet sump, and use the stock PCM no problem. Just a couple pigtail harness adapters for the cam and knock sensors, no biggie.

From someone who's been down the "build it up" road, I can see how the crate motor can be enticing. Eithe way is gonna be expensive, but having complete stock reliability and a factory 500hp motor is pretty neato .

However, I agree that you can make way more power NOT going with a crate motor and save a quick 5Gs or so NOT getting a Z06. Get a lower mile coupe .

I think the block I wanna use is the new GM 6.2 liter block....that comes in the new escalades. Look into it....prices aI think right now are cheap, especially if you have a PARTS hook-up.

And this is what I'm going to do. I see no point in spending all the $$ on an LS7 when you could actaully save $$ and build a C5R motor with more hp and durability. Or you could build a World Products block.............

Not to be an ***, but I don't see how you could honestly build a motor more reliable than GM. It is a genuine question . Save money, more power? Hell yeah! But...I think GM did the amazing job of making a production V8 with extreme HP and reliability.

I dont disagree with that but there is always room for improvement. It seem they(GM) always leave HP on the table and with all the aftermarket companies making cams, heads, headers etc, its there for the taking.
The biggest thing for me is I like to say I built it myself

Can't argue that building something up yourself (to an extent) is a great feeling. Nothing cooler than going to a car show with people asking who built it and looking at them with a puzzled look and saying, "Me. Who else?"

However, GM built the car car for stock reliability, emissions, and power. Building an engine is all about compromise. Companies make engines, headers, heads, cams, etc, because some people want to compromise emissions and driveability for more power. Pick oyur compromises and enjoy your build .

forged 402 ls2 or wait for the new motors to hit based off the new 6.2 liter motor.

13 grand installed with civilized 505 rear wheel hp.

Add in a set of American Brand Racing headers for about 1500 dollars and you should be good to go..

Figure the clutch Bs for another couple of grand.

You should be good to go from there.

Much better than a crate ls7 imo
