ive seen maybe 4 vipers in the trenton area one crashed trying to stay with my 07 z in a turn another reved his engine at me when he was parking then came in same store i was in after a few mins. i was ready to leave so i just walked up and said " i,m done here [so was he] lets get it on" he never even looked up.as far as a winner both are pretty even with power so its gonna be decided by how hits the gas in the right gear or launchs better or shifts better. ive got 3k on my z so i wouldnt be surprised if i got wacked.i need more seat time on her but i wont shrink from trying

I really wish it listed whether or not the time included having slicks on board.

I hate it when people post the time with car and don't bother mentioning that there 12 second Camaro or 11 second Z06 had slicks on.

It's as bad as a ricer failing to mention that his 11 second time was for the 1/8th mile....

Pretty much what I would expect. Viper by 2-4tenths on avg. Could go either way on the street. The one who gets out first is probably going to win.

Thumbs up

I've met Ivan Ho (at the Viper Owner's Invitational in St. Louis back in 2000) on that list, he's a high ranking guy in the national Viper Club, nice guy too.
I've met Evan Smith a couple times as well come to think of it LOL.

I was seriously looking at getting a gen3 viper but there was too many disadvantages over what I have now. 1/3 the gas mileage, 3x the price, same quickness, viper tax is worse then vette tax, but the biggest is .. its a dodge

My 01 C5 bone stock A4 except for and STS kit pulls a stock 99 Viper by 6 lengths from 40-120...nothing to worry about...you arent starting any trouble at all.

Damm....That things fast..

I had a 2004 auto c5.....with mild head and cam set up making 378 rwhp I was only 2-3 tenths behind the stock gen 2 vipers and a tenth faster than the stock c5z06's at my local drag strip....

So I would think that with another solid 50 rwhp from a TT kit and a solid 430 rwhp I would have pulled a stock gen Viper in the 1/4 mile by a good 3 tenths....

So id guess your around 450 rwhp to pull a gen 2 viper like that?????

GOOD JOB!!!!! MY Goal was to build an NA vette that could pull a stock gen 2 viper...but i played it to safe and my stock LS6 heads and 224/224 cam set up just wasnt enough....

could just barely pull the stock C5z06's...But the two stock GTS Vipers that came to our track would always edge me out by a few tenths...

So pissed that my combo wasnt doing the job I just said screw it..If you cant beat em join em.....

I could have beat em...but another 1500$ for a cam change and tuning, plus another 1500 to upgrade my gears from 2.73's to 3.42's just so i could hit 400 rwhp and edge out the stock gen 2 vipers just didnt seam worth it any more...

especially when every time i opened a magazine their were cars coming out that put down 400 rwhp PLUS....And the C6z06 putting out 460 rwhp bone stock just really killed my dream of having a 400 rwhp NA LS1....

hell...evan my vipers 410 rwhp/465 rwt bone stock seams a little limp wristed compared to the cars coming out nowadays.....

There was a simple solution. Spray a measly 100-shot,gears and a stall and you would have been golden. Not many cars can take a stalled/geared/sprayed LS1 from a dig.
Of course, a big shot on a V-10 works well also.

Yea but i hate juice...The only reason im spraying my viper instead of H/C or FI is cus im just sick of loosing THOUSANDS of dollars every time I sell a modded vehicle...

Yea FI I can buy the SC kit for 7 grand and then if i sell it one day take it off and sell it for 4-5 grand..but man thats still loosing a solid 2-3 grand...

So im just gonna spend 1 grand on the juice set up and then if i sell it for 600 one day...Well 400 bucks isnt soo bad.

480rwhp/480rwtq UNLOCKED A4 with a very conservative tune and only 14 degrees of timing. it was over 500/500 at 12:1. Timing should be at 16 which i will run next year when i start racing it. A stock Z06 is 530+ without trying.

Anyhow the viper i raced is torn apart right now getting a paxton...it will be closer next time.....

Depends on what year he is...If he's a 96-99 then with no other mod besides a 10 pound paxton he will put down 600 rwhp and 800 rwt or maybe a little more..

But if he is a 2000 and up model his kit only can come with 5 psi since those engines aerent forged...And he'll be in the 500/700 or a little more range...

So since you said he's a 99 he's gonna defiently be out powering you...But the C5 is 150 pounds lighter and has better arodynamics..

I know that a stock C6Z06 with a cam and headers can easily get in the low 500's...But the problem with the C6Z06 is....NA it can become a beaste..But it seems like half the people who try to go on the juice or FI end up blowing their motor..

This is why I decided on a 99 viper over a 03 viper or 2006C6z06....I figured that they all looked nice...And each had their share of history...

But the SRT10 just hasnt been looking that great since 2003 as far as raw power and speed goes...Beautiful car...But just being in the top 20 fastest production cars in the world is not nearly enough...And then the engines also not forged

But in 1997 the gen 2 viper was the fastest production car you could by in the world..feels kinda nice having a peice of history like that sitting in my garage..All forged engine

The C6Z06 is simply amazing..But for the 700 rwhp power that Im after it was simply just the wrong platform...I dont want to steer the pot. But it seems like the cars achilies heel is that the engine blows on relativly low boost...

So I chose the gen 2....

-Most people say they are the best looking vipers
-fastest production car you could buy in the world in it's day
-Forged engine to handle 700 PLUS rwhp from juice or FI right out the box

Gens 2/3 look like solid 120mph cars. I need a little more to play .

I've only heard of one blowing up. Wasn't it on Vengeance's dyno? **** happens with the juice sometimes, forged or not if something fails and you don't have the necessary safety devices. BOOM.
No offense, a C6Z and Gen2 or 3 would be a no brainer for me. M3 Vette is trapping 130's with his C6Z with bolt-ons and you get a 5-year powertrain warranty to boot. That being said the Gen 2 Viper is still one of my favourite cars.

Well the c6Z06 was the last one on my list...It's faster than the SRT10 in a straight line for sure...But high 11's at 120-123 mph isnt exactly slow eighter...

But since the viper came out in 2003 I have never seen an SRt10 actaually driving on the road..And Ive seen one gen 1 viper rt10 and two gen 2 vipers actually driving on the road...

In my life not counting car dealerships or the drag strip ive seen 3 vipers actually out cruising...

In contrast Ive seen 4 c6Z06s on the road in the past year....

To some people that wouldnt mean anything..But to me it made me lean towards the viper.....

No one can deny though that just putting a cam on an C6Z06 will let you trap 130's all day...Gotta give it to chevy on an amazing machine.

killemall, what part of BFE do you live in? I'm in Jacksonvill FL, redneck capital USA, and see C6Zs and SRT V1p0rs EVERY DAY. Hell, we have several 1kwp+ street driven Vipers and Ferd Gts in town daily driven, and a few healthy Vettes as well. Maybe you shouold think about moving here. Roe Racing is right around the corner when you are ready get serious about your v1p0r! lol

The last time I was at the track there were actually two Vipers and I was the only C5. There was a Lingenfelter C4 there though. I guess it depends on where you live. I have actually had more chances to race Vipers on the street than vettes. There certainly are more vettes though. Guess I'm just lucky.
