Are 10's in the near future for me?

I just bought some 275/40/17 MT street radials for my old firebird 17inch wheels . I test fitted the wheels on my Z51 C6 and drove around for a few minutes to make sure all was good (on 6 year old bfg drag radials,no less..lol). The only odd thing that happened was a repetitive surge at about 50mph on one straight away, but I'm hoping that was just because of the rear/tranny getting used to the smaller wheel and at wot it didn't occur. No TPS code came up, but I did crank the car near the C6 wheels/tire, so I'm assuming thats what I'm gonna have to do at the track. The tires should be here next week or so. As long as I don't break the diff or shafts, I think I can get the car into the 10's with a sub 1.7 60ft. What do you guys think?

Yes, very possible.

Do it up man....hope your diff can handle it!

I've broken C6 ones,...just rolling into the throttle on the street,..without wheel hop.

Thats my only worry. I 'm hoping since it's an auto and not an 05(that seem to have the most problems), I'll be able to get a few passes in safely. If I hit anything below a 10.99, even it's the first run, I'm calling it a day and driving home.:D

I think you have a good chance at it. The m/t's should hook up great at the track. my buddy was able to cut a 1.69 60' time in his c5z06 with bolt ons and nittos.
Good luck and hope your car makes it in one piece.

:hijack: So I have a question. I read and read about the corvette for decades, finally get one and hear its got a weak rearend too? (like the f-body??). What can I do to prevent this from breaking like my 10 bolt?

I always thought these cars were made to beat on!! :bang:

Well,..maybe your right. You'll probably be fine, being an auto.

As for diff's...the ones I broke where 05's...as you mentioned. Hell, i'd possibly call it a day as well but...you know how those records go...gotta back it up.

Yeah man,...sucks ass. Primarily why i'm not a real track whore.

ou could always buy an output shaft to help out, and a DTE brace....but...probably better off on getting a whole new diff, or a later unit.

How big is your stall?
The question is how much have you had to roll into the throttle with your current tires?

low to mid 1.6x will get there. good luck!

Jimmy, There are a number of things that can be done to beef up the rear, but it is all $$. I see the vette rear as better than the f-body, but inferior to a 12 bolt.
