Default 00 corvette coupe-?'s

Hello, just looking for a few opinions on a 2000 coupe I am interested in buying. Details are: Base coupe, red on black, m6, FE1? suspension, sport seats, 18k miles, 1 owner, bone stock, not even the skip shift is disabled, not a scratch on the body/rims. Looks to be the original F1's with decent tread(will upgrade any ways) seats look good, battery is still a delco, but it appears to be leak free. Engine sounds good, no belt squeaks, no slapping of a cold motor, no codes shown, all gears engage w/no grinding, and no slippage. Rear diff looks dry, underbody is clean, and all electrical accesories do work.

Asking price is $22,4xx. Dealer is willing to take my car as a decent trade being 12 years old ($4500), They will wash and wax it for me, full tank of gas, and are holding it for me on a deposit for 1 week. Now does this sound like a reasonable price? Most c5's in my area with such low miles are easily $24/25K. 50K c5's are usually right around this price. Also, I did not see any visible corrosion around the battery, but I did not remove it either. Should I do this to check underneith it before I seal the deal? Sorry for the long post, but this is the most expensive car I have purchased so far, and I just want a bit more confidence in my decision. It will be my DD from April to November and I will NOT have a lien on it either. Thanks for your time.

Dan

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me for such low mileage. One thing, in 2000 the "Competition Mode" was an option. So was HUD. (I had a 2000 coupe). The only other thing is that the 99/00 came with 26lb injectors so if... no, I mean WHEN you start modding it, injectors are almost a must. BTW, I sold my 00 a couple months back for 19k with 70k mi.
Post some pics of it when you get it.

Thanks for the reply. It does have HUD which seems to work properly. I don't know about competition mode, but it does not have the adjustable suspension if that is related. I looked at 3 c5's so far and this one seems to be the cleanest, un-modified, fair priced example.

When you test drive the car, come to a full stop and press the Traction Control button located on the center console. Hold it down for 7-10 seconds. If the dash display comes on and says "Competitive Mode Activated"... it has it. If it just says "Traction Control Disabled"... it dunt

if the center counsil says Active Handling i believe it has Competition mode. If not it will just say Traction Control. i'm not 100% sure on that though. I wish my '98 had competion Mode

What does this competition mode you speak of do?

Competition mode is where it adjust the suspension and activate sensors that basically help keep your car straight and controlled when you try to make it Lose control. It's VERY helpful when you want to push the car and not wreck or autocross it. Like mine has Traction Control and that's it. If i have it off and push the car too much it'll spin out if i over-do it. If you have C.M. you basically push the hell outta the car and point it where you want it to go and the C.M. will adjust and do what you want the car to do. It's REALLY sweet. I was in a car with it and was very impressed Takes more driver skill to run a car without it though. Without competition mode or traction control activated it's not all that hard to push them too far if you give it too much gas and turn to sharp but it's FUN to do sometimes. I don't like to do it much but sometimes i'll drift corners without the TC. With CM you tend to be able to do that and are less likely to lose it~Cole~

Sounds like a decent deal. I paid 23K out the door tax, tag and title on my 00 with about 23k on the clock a little over 2 years ago. Everything up our way is more expensive so look for any reason to lower the price. Like the other guy said you will have to upgrade injectors later on I know I did!

Yeah, if you like the car then buy it. You are getting a pretty good price, especially at retail...

UPDATE: Ok, as of today, I still don't have the vette. I have a deposit on it, but I am waiting on Toyota to send a check on my rotting tacoma. I am not going to trade my TA, but I will buy the 00. I'll try to sell the TA on my own for a fair price, and if not, I'll keep it I guess. I now have to get a small loan to cover the difference in price, but that is not a big deal on a 20k car. Hopefully I can have my first LSx by this weekend. We'll see...

Comp mode is available on ALL C5's with "active handling". But in pre-2001 cars, you must be fully stopped to engage it. on 01+ you can be moving and do it.

Well, no deal. I did not get my check from toyota fast enough, and the dealer would not hold it any longer. I did not want to take a loan out, so I just let it go. The search continues for a vette under $23k. They sure seem to be coming down on price though.

I saw a good deal on a black 98 coupe w/35k miles. Price was close to $19k and an original owner. Anything to be more concerned with on the early production c5's?

I paid 26.5 but only 25k miles and bone stock damn near mint condition which is hard to come by for a car 7-8 years old.

There is ALWAYS good deals out there. Just be ready with cash/check on hand. If your in no rush take 2-3 months to shop for the best deal around.
