Default ABS and TRAC lights on

Every once in a while i get a service active handling and service ABS light that comes on and i usually hold the track button on the center console down while i start the car and it will go away (like the maintence lights on toyotas but i was just wondering what a common cause would be if anyone has had this problem, i fugure a wheel speed sensor or something? I hooked it up to the scanner at work (Toyota) and it didnt have anywhere i could go into it, but im going down to pontiac/gmc were affiliated with tom. on my lunch break and get it checked if it has a history section like toyos. I have HPTuners also and i didnt find anywhere i could go into diag as far as ABS/TRAC. Its a 2001 Z06.
THANKS!!!

Check the codes on the dash display and see what it is using the info in the sticky at the top of this section.

I can say that the same thing happened on my '01 Zo6 also.

It turned out being the driver's side wheel speed sensor (which is built into the hub.)

I bought a new one (the spindle just unbolts, it's a one hour job) for about $260. Make sure you get the factory GM Delco instead of the repro version. Sometimes you can get by with repro stuff, but on the wheel bearing it's not advised...

With all that being said, I changed the spindle/sensor and 3 months later the same issue showed up. I got a new hub under warranty (one year warranty) and I'm about to swap it out on my next day off.

The light is intermittent the second time around. Simply a faulty sensor.

hmmm...JOSHUA was lucky being it was his speed sensor....i have had this issue on my 01 Z as well and it WASNT a speed sensor...like you it came on one day and went off the next time i started the vehicle...well a month goes by and im noticing this is becoming more frequent (and believe me it will) ...until one day i start it and it stayed on...EVEN after cooling down for 2 nites...did some research....check out your EBCM (Electronic Brake Control Module) aka EBTCM (Electronic Brake Traction Control Module)...usually its a solonoid that goes bad (corrision, loose etc.) inside the EBCM/ mechanical side (BPMV)=(Brake Pressure Modualting Valve) and has to be replaced....dealerships dont do this kinda work....they will replace the entire thing...and itll cost ya around $1400-$2000 for the entire job!!!...some guys have had this happen and have never seen it come back (SOME!!!) but most have it start and only to get worse with time...check your DIC codes.......hold "FUEL" and press the "OPTIONS" button 4 times to display the codes...youll see one for TCS...it may or may not let you clear it...if it lets you clear it, that means it has been tripped one or more times and has made a history of it...its only a matter of time before it trips again...my problem ended up being inside the EBCM (like most do)....if so, PM me and ill tell you where i sent my unit to get fixed for only $150

^ True.

The EBCM happens to most C5's over their life cycle.

I think the $150 for the part is a place that will rebuild yours (if you can leave your car immobile for a while) or you can pay a core charge until you send your old one in...

SStheBest- can you please send me the contact info for the ECBM rebuilder? I know someone who can use that info asap. His is acting up.

yea sure....and u dont have to leave ur car immobile either....when i removed mine, a buddy and me placed duct tape and a plastic bag over the open component prongs...and duct taped the connection wires to the fan shroud wires(also covered with plastic)...drove it like that for a week...and no problems...however i wouldnt suggest any extreme highend runs with out your ECBM due to the fact that even though covered, there still air around it and wires, and it may come lose....u wouldnt want that happenin....Oh one other thing, of course your gonna get service vehicle soon, ect....dont worry, IF that was all the problem, when u reinstall it, just go through your DIC codes and clear it...All is well
