Default first time at track with the Z

and i couldnt get a good run in. I made 4 passes total, only one of them was good, and i still coulda done much better.

I am in need of the drill mod BAD! after maxing out 2nd gear, everytime i went to change, the clutch was to the floor. Absolutely could not put it in 3rd.

Best run was a 13.5 @101 with a 2.1 60'.
I had to litteraly shove into 3rd gear after maxing out 2nd, and it took me a second to do that, but at least i made a descent time.
The car:
'99 Z28 m6, ls6 intake,p/p throttlebody, slp lid, magnaflow bullet

245/16 street tires, stock 3.42's

What is the altitude of the track, your doing good for the 1st. time out, i would say you'll be in the 13.3s with some practice, maybe even 13.2s once you get that shifting problem solved, the MPH could be higher then 101 for an LS1, i would think 103-105 as a norm with some add-ons, so keep practicing.

As for the shifting issue, you can do the "drill mod" on the LS1 car, i'm of coarse running an LT1, i too had issues shifting into 3rd. at the track, but now i'm getting much better & hardly ever miss, it takes practice, i found out my car doesn't like to be "crammed" into 3rd., just don't get too aggressive on the 2nd./3rd. shift, let it find its way in, peddle to peddle timing also plays a big roll in the 2nd./3rd. shift, once you find that sweet spot that YOUR car likes, you should have it licked.

i have no idea what the altitude of the track is, but we went to Alabama international dragway in steele, alabama. At least i know my times arent too much off. I know it coulda been better though cuz i had to pause for a sec while getting it into third and still ran the 13.5. But yes, the drill mod is on the agenda for this weekend

The drill mod will definately fix what you are describing...I have the same exact issue...I can nail my 1 to 2 as fast as I want but if I am even close to powershifting my 2 to 3 I get denied. Many aborted runs before I realised I just have to give it a moment and shift a bit slower on the 2 to 3.

All I do is just hit the clutch...count 1 thousand 1 and shift... seems to be enough to get me past the issue for now. I do want to know how well I would run if I didn't have to handicap my shifting technique.

Enh.. I figure running a 13.1 ~ 13.2 every pass versus missing the gear completely and letting off was a fair trade off.

Let me know... I don't want to start drilling into things just yet.
