Default 12.9 @108 02' camaro ss.... good or bad?

Hey ls1tech,

got a 02 camaro A4 here with cheapo headers, custom y pipe, borla catback, hp tune, and a lid with some SHITTY sumitomo tires.

Took it to little river academy where its hot as hell last friday and ran a 12.9 @108 on the first run spinning hard as hell out of the hole. I got a 2.1 60' foot time.

Is that good? Bad? or Average for the mods I have?

I have the nitrous in the car, just dont want to shatter the rear end.

BTW anyone looking for the bosch #13111 02 sensors better hurry and find em. I had to go to 6 different auto stores to find the long maroon ones since they are changing the style from long to short... at least thats what all the part stores told me.

Also, caught a race today against a Caliber SRT-4. The guy said he had an upgraded turbo, intake, and exhaust of some sort. We did a roll of 70 where the auto's dont downshift for **** and I barely pulled a fender on him. Are those things supposed to be pretty quick or what? If we were at 60, Im sure I would have killed him, since my camaro downshifts HARD at that speed.

Thanks for nice replies.

Phew... thats a relief

I have a buddy who has an 01 trans am ws6 who claims he ran a 12.2 @118 with nothing but hooker headers and 4 inch exhaust all the way back to his borla. He says its a factory freak

I got to thinking that if his bone stock ws6 with just exhaust and no tune could do that, that my ***** weak...

True about the manual downshift... I just dont wanna fry my tranny just yet... its needs a shift kit and some servos to prolong its life....

And yeah, this guy claimed he was gonna run an 11.9 but was dissapointed when his otherwise stock fbody ran a 12.2 .... maybe he'll show up this weekend at the track and I can watch how his "factory freak" really runs

118 with a exh. car only yeah thats not gonna happen, thats about a 10 mph trap higher then a non "factory freak" car, maybe he bought his car with a built motor and didnt know it
your times are perfectly fine, you just need to get that 60 foot down a little

sounds like your right on par! Just put some drag radials on there to get that 60 ft down and you will be running mid 12s all day!

I agree.
As for the roll race, mine will kick down at speeds lower than 73mph any higher and the damn thing falls on it's face, which sounds like what yours did. You would have beat the SRT4 much easier from slightly lower start speed.

i don thtink you will fry your tranny. hell even if you accidently go down one too many gears, i think it has a failsafe to where it only goes to the lowest gear possible. both my 96 grand am GT and my 97 Grand Prix GT i could be cruising 70 and drop the bitch into 1st, but the tranny woudl actualy drop down to 2nd.... is it the same in these A4s?

same thing...

you can do 80mph and drop it in first, it wont kick down until you get around 25 or something like that..

get stall converter, rear end gears, decent set of tires, and get more practice. then youll be running better times

but 12.9 on your setup is pretty good actually. i would expect low 13's on a hot day with shitty tires

he already said it didn't go into second, If he pulls the lever down to 2 what makes you think that will make it go to 2nd? The lever doesn't control ****, the computer makes all the decisions. So instead of telling him to manually downshift bc that "forces" the trans into 2nd which it wont, just tell him to slow down before he races. Your understanding of how the auto-trans works =

OP, your friend is an idiot, his car isnt a "factory freak" its got more done to it

Congrats on your times, easy mid-12s with some decent tires.
