Default Opening day new best in LS1 Chevelle

After a head gasket scare the previous night, this day was quite a relief. Was running 11.8:1 in 3rd gear, pulled it down to 12.8.

During the tuning run I smelled coolant and later found a huge puddle under the car. The car was previously tuned in 1st and 2nd on the street and I didn't realize this made 3rd gear so rich.

Found out the water leak which appeared to be coming from between the head and block was actually running down from a stripped coolant crossover bolt on top of the head. Put a longer bolt in it with some thread sealer and it was good to go.

Got to the track, unloaded my tools from the trunk, dropped the ET streets to 18# and as soon as they called lined up. Opening day so they had some nice prep down to get ready (but didn't prep anymore all day).

first pass was a new best: 1.71 60ft 7.42@94mph 1/8th and 11.67@115mph

Wideband was reading a little lean at 13.4 so I adjusted to tune to get it around 12.6 and next pass the car went 11.70@116mph on a 1.82 60ft (track was already getting slick)

My goal with the combo was 11.6s so it's nice to finally be where I wanted, but if it hooks again with the cleaner tune it might pick up just another hair.

I think that's nearly all this converter, gear, and tire are gonna go. Best ever was a 1.68 with no spin at all.

DA was ~56ft and the car has a race weight of 3650lbs according to CAT truck scales

nice run man! She is moving for a big girl! Get that converter out and get some more gear behind you and watch her drop into the lower 11's. You have much done to the suspension??

Not in the near future. The guy who helped me clean them up now has all kinds of fancy toys like a flowbench, valve grinder, and a head machine (not sure what it's called but it does milling and other stuff)

Was shooting for the roll bar cutoff limit with the combo and I'm about there. Not going to put a bar or cage in a true street car. Depends how lenient the track owner will be how much further I will go with it.

Hi, this is Steve Sr. I talked to you last sunday at Mokan. Really like your car,but you need to go ahead and put just a roll bar in and change to 4.11's and some juice ( just a 100 shot) and you'll be good for 10's. Don't need a cage til 9.49. It will still be a street car. It would fly. Can't wait to get mine together and get out there. See you guys in about 4 or 5 weeks.

Congrats on your PB and I thought the rules for roll bar/roll cage was like this. 11.49 for roll bar and 9.99 or 135 mph what ever comes first..

Went back yesterday. We had much worse air (1300+ DA instead of 50).

Car went 1.69 60ft 7.42 1/8th and 11.68@115 anyway. Backed that up with a few low 11.7s.

Got a dyno graph of the car finally and it peaks much earlier than I expected. I should be able to back my shifts down a little and it might go faster (feels like it's nosing over the top of second at the track).

graph: (TORQUE IS NOT ACCURATE, rolled into the throttle because it kept trying to downshift)

Looks like you have her delivering the goods now. Glad to see the ET and MPH where it should be. Now just get some good air and tailwind and you will have some 11.50s.

From the looks of the graph and how it felt on the dyno I think it's nosing over at the top of 2nd on the track. I loaded a new tune which dropped the shift there 200rpm and tried a pass but the track was slick by then.

I don't know if it will pick up with the new shift point, but I don't expect it to hurt anything. It was commanded to shift at 6600 before and was hitting 6700ish during the shift, looks like cam peaks around 6300 and carries to 6500ish but the curve leading up to peak is flat enough I think it will fall back into the meat pretty good.
