Raced my son today
I haven't been to the track in over 8 years because of career changes. Well, today that all changed and even though I don't have nearly as fast a car as I had years ago today was the absolute best. My 18 year old son brought his bolt on camaro and I brought my bolt on formula. I was priveldged to race my son 5 times today. What an incredibly fun day and treasure to line up with your son after wrenching in the garage on the cars together. We both had a great day - he ran 13.20 at 106 on his second pass ever and I ran 12.40 at 114.
Just had to share what a great day it was.

I'm gonna have to work hard to stay ahead though. He's already bought a new cam and is now looking for a convertor and intake. I have a feeling this is going to get expensive fast!

Awesome! I wish my dad was the same way, he gets really pissed when I go to the track and now I'm banned (By him) to go to the track. He's doing it for my safety, I understand so I obey.

I think if my son wanted to go to the track then I would be okay with that, as we all know 9/10 the track is the safest place to race your car. I say 9/10 bc sometimes **** does happen. But, if you dont get to go to the track..........where are you doing your racing? On the street I bet
Might try to have an adult conversation with him about track safety, sometimes people are just misinformed.

Hey high impact This is your son! Your car has a sleeper cam or an ls6 cam.. I'm callin it! We can't hear it but I bet it's there but who knows that's what yeah get for buying used haha I was soooo jealous on your trap! I saw out timeslip and said holy ****! And was freakin out! Lol we knew he pulled me on the street some but neither of us were expecting him to trap 114!! I wanted to hit 12s so bad! And was expecting to trap about a 108 so I was alittle disappointed! Overall it was a blast to race my dad at the track. And if ever given the chance I'm gonna do the same with my son. Keeps us off the streets.. For the most part

Seriously bub? You keep saying I have a cam but I don't think so...obviously I bought the car used but it idles like a stocker - I think it is just a bolt on car. Ls1 intake, 241 heads, stock throttle body and all! Maybe your old man just knows how to shift FAST! Ha

I think he's a 6 gear...... He said something about just knowing how to shift fast in his reply to his son's comments about having a "cam".

I had a 10.5 tire 65 Malibu ss with a stroked small block Chevy I sold 8 years ago due to career changes and had numerous fast street cars before that so I am no stranger around the drag strip. My son and I bought a ratted third gen when he was 14, we did a mild restoration/modification on it together and he started driving it when he turned 16. He handled the car well for two years and decided he wanted a fourth gen last summer so he picked up his 98 z28. I drove it and was so impressed that I traded a project camaro I had for a nbm 2000 formula 6 spd. I never thought I'd be back in the saddle again...I am 44 years old and still to this day enjoy the drag strip.
2000 formula, ws6 badges and hood, lowered on hypercoil springs, stock shocks, Luis Gigliotti tubular suspension in rear, moser 12 bolt with 3.73 gears, t56 with ls7 clutch and adjustable master cylinder, headers, ory, no cats, borla exhaust, egr and air delete, hydro dipped ls1 intake, granetelli maf, tune, lid, bump stop mod. When I got the car the synchros were knocked out of the trans so I bought a stock t56 with 26k miles and installed it - I am rowing gears with a lumpy stock box. Ha i am running 26 inch tall Et streets with skinnies on race star wheels. Qa1's are on the shelf in the garage along with a tsp cam and ported fast intake/TB set up and line lock.
