Default 1st time at the track..lid/catback 98 Z28

Went to Famoso Auto Club last night in Bakersfield and ran my car with a few buddies. I am on street tires and did not lower their psi (probably 45-50psi), stock 10 bolt, stock everything except for slp lid and an slp lm2. This is an M6 car.

The best I could get out of it was a 13.9 @ 102, with a bad RT(like .320) and terrible 60ft(2.3). My friend with a Challenger R/T ran a 14.5, and my other friend with a VW GTI ran a 14.4.

All the other runs I did my car just would not shift into 2nd or 3rd...this problem has never occurred on the street. I was taking my car up to around 6000rpms and when I would try to shift into 2nd or 3rd it would hit like a "block" and just would not go into gear unless I really slowly shifted. Again, I have never noticed this issue on the street and I drive it just as hard...maybe because I was doing pass after pass it got hot? Is it time for a new clutch or drill mod? Maybe a shifter..?

Did some researching and seems like a lot of f-body owners have this same issue and are saying it is solved by installing a tick master cylinder. Guess I'll try that?

45-50psi holy shiiiieeet batman! Lol might as well be driving on ice.

At least you ran 13's first time out though!

What were the symptoms, the car just wouldn't go into gear, or was the pedal sticking to the floor etc?

Running back to back, and especially from a dig makes the clutch work hard so that could have been a factor. Hydraulics could have also been an issue (master, slave etc.). And if the clutch is original its more than likely needs to be replaced anyways.

Check your clutch fluid reservoir...I guarantee it's black. Swap the fluid like in this video and the feel/shifting should improve a bit. Depending on what symptoms the car was getting I can give you a better idea of what the issue was. And if you could get even a 2.0 60' you should be low 13's no prob. the more seat time the better!

It just absolutely would not go into 3rd gear. Hit like a "wall." Kinda hard to get it in 2nd to, but doable.

Stock clutch yes. Lots of people are saying to upgrade to the tick master.

Yes the tick master is a big upgrade but honestly with this power level/the rpm you're shifting at you shouldn't NEED it. The stock master should be able to get the job done if everything else is functioning properly. Hell I ran 11's with a 6 speed and bolt-on's with the stock master.

Could just be time for a new clutch. You can try the easy fixes first such as changing the fluid and doing the drill mod. But if that doesn't fix it the issue could be something internal such as the slave or clutch/pp, maybe even just time to replace the old stock master.

Having said that if you do end up doing the big job, get new everything. Clutch kit, slave cylinder, master etc. That way you'll be 100% fresh.

Good luck sorting out the issue!

i have no clue about your shifting problem, i just would like to see you run faster & smoke your buddies. if funds permit add sub frame connectors & lower control arms to help traction & eliminate wheel hop (some also add relocation brackets). also get a tune if you dont have one. cheers! make em wish they bought a LS1! checkout an old super chevy article ls1 dos & donts may 2004.

I'll figure out the shifting problem. I plan on going out there next time on street slicks or something.

I have a shop in town that is quoting ~$450 for a bolt in 12 bolt rear end...doesn't that sound too cheap?

White z28? I was out there for the last TnT with some buddies.

Dropping those short times will help your times a lot, should get closer to mid/low 13s down near the 2.0 mark. Once you get your shifting issues sorted out a set of 4.10s and a sticky tire should push you into the 12s, just watch that 10 bolt.

We should be out there on November 1st/2nd, swing by and say whats up if you're out
