Default 11.OH so close to that 10 sec motor pass!

Went to Royal Purple Raceway 1-3-2014 Friday night for the first races since the holiday shutdown. Had some good cool weather, so wanted to go try for my 10 sec motor pass. Came so close but didn't quite make it, guess I should have taken out that 3/4 full nitrous bottle out of the spare tire well and dropped another 20 lbs hehehe! Maybe I'll get it next time out.

Track was cold, so two of my four passes were wasted with blowing the tires on the launch. Got two decent passes out of 4 runs.

New best times at all increments of the passes.

98 Camaro SS 3780 lbs raceweight and driven 180 miles round trip to track and back.
New best: 11.010 @ 123.20 mph on a 1.570 60 ft
Increments of pass:
60 ft: 1.570
330 ft: 4.533
1/8th: 7.013
1/8th: 98.99 mph
1000 ft; 9.178
1/4: 11.010
1/4: 123.20 mph

Here is a video of my 3rd pass against a new 2014 C7 Corvette, I ran 11.03 @ 122.76 on a 1.573 60 ft

Her is a slow motion video of the launch, actually got the wheel up on this heavy pig!

You are right about that. I was there for over 6 hours, from 6:10pm-12:20am and only got in four passes. The wait in the lanes sucked.

Yeah, its so tempting to take the conv out and send it back to FTI to get it loosened up some, but it drives so good on the street. With a STR of 2.15 it does not hit real hard on motor. But, I want to see what it is capable of on the 150 shot once I get the nitrous to come in sooner on the launch and I think it will earn its keep. Seems to be really efficient too!

The camshaft was in the car when I bought it last November. It sounds real good and seems to make decent power, although it seems to peak fairly early around 6150-6200 rpms. I know there are probably better grinds for the L92 heads, but not sure if the cost to change it out would be worth the gains or not? The car is kind of a compromise build to be a decent street driver that can run decent times on motor and with 150-200 shot of juice.

As soon as I reach my 10.9X goal for a motor pass, I already have some 3:73 gears to put in and allow me to make a full spray pass. I am hoping for high 9.80-9.90s on the nitrous passes. The previous 10.37 @ 131.6 nitrous passes were not achieved as a full pass on the juice, was hitting the deactivation rpm and on my 6800 rpm limiter before the traps by 75 or so ft.
The 3.73s should let me do a full out pass and let the car mph a little higher also. Also have to get the nitrous to come on at the hit without a transbrake.

Yeah, I should have taken it out. I also had 1/2 tank of fuel as well, so I could have theoretically made the "Goal". I just always try to run the car the same way each time to see the actual improvement in times. I probably could have dropped 50-60 lbs between the bottle and extra fuel.

Yeah, you are just right up the road. I will be going to either Evadale or Baytown every chance I get in the next three months or so chasing those time slips while its cool here. Maybe we can meet up sometime. I drive the car around on the weekends between here and Orange sometimes to stop by friends houses.

What kind of vehicle you have? You might see me in my Black 98 SS or my 2002 Silver ZO6 every once in a while when I get it out. Wave me down if you see me. Just look for the "old fart" in the cammed up SS

I drive a pewter 02 Z28 with a "Sunoco" cowl hood. I don't think i've seen another car that looks like this one. I kind of expect Evadale to rain out this weekend but if not I will be out there spectating. My car still needs work before I run it.

I feel your pain/victory on the new personal best but not a 10. End of last season I had the same goal and ended up with an 11.01 @121.91.

Cool, I remember seeing your car also. Too bad it was so crowded and slow moving in the lanes. Congrats on you new best also, always nice to go and get a new best timeslip. Makes all the effort worthwhile. Maybe see you out there again soon. I will be making trips that way as we have good cold fronts blow through, the 180 mile round trip is worth it if we have some good air to run in.

Yeah, I saw where you ran that PB here a month or two ago. Remember I PM'd you a while back with questions about your 4L80E tune. I finally got mine all figured out and got my shift points where I like them.

Yeah , its tough to be so close to a goal and not quite make it, but that's gives us something to look forward to next time. Pretty cool how similar our cars run even though our combo's are so different. I have no doubt we will both make our 10.9Xs very soon.

As soon as I get that 10.9X slip on motor, I'm gonna pull the 4.11s out and put in my 3:73s that are on the shelf and see if I can make some upper 9.80-9.90s passes on the 150 shot

Run an 11.002, have a diesel dump coolant all over the track when the car was getting faster every pass and see how you feel, lol. I am no stranger to your pain.

Brother, you just cant get much closer and not get it than that!
I'm gonna try it again this weekend hopefully if the weather holds out. DA will not be quite as good, but gotta give it a try, will probably make a few more passes with the 150 shot as well and see how close I can get to that 9.9X slip on the spray.

Years ago in my '98 Formula I went 11.02 and never went 10's.

But in my white Z/28 I did go 10.92 with a 348 CID and 10.008 on 150 shot.

The rain is supposed to stop in the early AM, sure hope it does. Forecast calls for a nice Saturday, DA wont be great, but am going to make some motor & nitrous passes. Should be a good day for racing. If I manage some new PBs that would be icing on the cake
