Default Went to the track, had some good and some puzzling results

Went to Steele Sunday (same as RomanK in his thread). My car is a 98 Formula, 6spd, t-top car. It is 100% bone stock with the exception of Mobil 1 synthetic oil, skip shift eliminator and Dunlop SP 5000 tires. Factory airlid, bellows, exhaust, etc. were all still in place. I ran a 13.6 @ 106 on a 2.2x and then a 13.5 @ 105.74 on a 2.16 60 ft. I was ecstatic! I never thought a stock car would trap 106. Anyway, the third run I botched terribly so I let the car sit for a while and give myself time to settle down. A while later I tried to improve on the 60 ft and I just couldn't do it. Sometimes I'd miss a gears, sometimes I'd spin, sometimes I'd bog. I was happy with the stock times so I decided to swap in an SLP lid and K&N there at the track. I swapped over the electronics to the new setup and put the K&N in. I DID NOT put the K&N seal on the lid. I didn't even know it was there until I was done. It seemed to seal fine so I left it off. After putting it back together, I went through the gears at the end of the parking lot to let the car relearn the airflow characteristics. It definitely had a SOTP effect. Well, it didn't do squat on the track. I ran a few 13.7's and .8's on crappy 60fts and managed a 13.6 @ 106 on a 2.2. Do ECU's typically need more time to adapt to a lid? Should I have reset the ECU? I also noticed that the IAT gromet has an angle to it. I installed it such that the IAT slanted back (tip toward the MAF, plug toward the headlights). Should I have reversed it? I was also think I was shifting early. When the tach needle hit yellow, I shifted. I figured that taking reaction time and time to shift into acount, I would be hitting 5900 or so pretty consistently. However, I was later told that I was shifting to early. I also got a good scratch on the 1-2 shift.

So what do you think? Anything I can improve (other than the crappy 60's)? I've got the slips in the car so I'll post the whole thing after lunch.

Yeah, Mark. I may try some Nitto 555's. Ed said they work well in the rain (since my car is a daily driver right now).

Here are some slips. The first 2 are bone stock right as I got to the track. The second 2 are after I swapped the lid and filter. Run 3 and 4 are about 40 minutes apart.

Run1
R/T .....0.758
60' ...... 2.237
330' .... 5.991
1/8 ..... 8.974
MPH .... 83.23
1000' ..
1/4 ..... 13.635
MPH .... 106.13

Run2
R/T ..... 0.710
60' ...... 2.163
330' .... 5.884
1/8 ..... 8.852
MPH .... 83.46
1000' ..
1/4 ..... 13.520
MPH .... 105.74

Run3
R/T ..... 0.543
60' ...... 2.215
330' .... 5.964
1/8 ..... 8.957
MPH .... 82.95
1000' ..
1/4 ..... 13.630
MPH .... 105.86

Run4
R/T ..... 1.098 (they Pro-tree'd us)
60' ...... 2.225
330' .... 5.986
1/8 ..... 8.957
MPH .... 83.27
1000' ..
1/4 ..... 13.611
MPH .... 106.21

For comparison, Run 4 was against a cool guy in a 2000 DROPTOP SS, 6 spd. He had a lid, filter and some all season tires (less aggressive tread pattern than mine). He ran:
R/T ..... 1.010
60' ...... 2.225
330' .... 5.919
1/8 ..... 8.860
MPH .... 84.00
1000' ..
1/4 ..... 13.467
MPH .... 106.97

We had identical 60 ft's and he still out ran me. I was trying my damnedest too. I would figure his car is heavier than mine with the same mods. I guess his SS hood and SS exhaust slightly outpowered me. He was also shifting at redline. He had some 1.9 60's and could drop as low as 13.3x I believe. I tried to catch him and I just didn't have enough.

So, any thoughts?
