Default First time to the track tonight, my car is a terd. Help.

So tonight I got my first 2 runs in, and ended up disappointed. I drive a 2000 Trans Am, A4 w/ 2.73 gears. Only mods are whisper lid, hooker catback, and Nitto DRs. Now, although I wasnt expecting 12s or anything, I thought my car was atleast good for low-mid 13s! Also, my SES light has been on lately, could that partially be the problem? Also, I know I need a stall converter badly..heres the times.
R/T---.064
60 ---2.176
330---6.037
1/8---9.163
MPH---79.3
1000---11.793
1/4 ---13.983
MPH---102.54

My other run was very similar, slightly quicker. Also, it was at sea level, so cant blame it on elevation. Thanks in advance for any help.

my bone stock a4 00 z28 ran 13.86 @ 102.48, don't feel bad. i think the gears really hurt. did you leave it in drive or manually shift?

So do you mean Hooker headers? or just cat back, If your where on Drag RAdials when i was stock some reason they slowed me down a little made me bog off the line . When i had no mods on Street tires i Ran a 13.8 @ 101 with about a 2.1 60ft time If you did put on headers prob O2 sense putting on the SES light that would slow u down if its the Front two. They controll alot.

No, just a catback, and I left it in drive. Stalled it up to about 1700-1800 RPMs

All of your problems are in the 60ft, that mph is easily good for low 13s.

One thing you can do is work on that 60' time. Get it down .4 seconds quicker, and your 1/4 will be about 13.5

What was the weather like where you were racing? just because you are at sea level doesn't mean the DA is 0. Also, every .10 you can cut off in the 60' will equal between .15 and .20 off your ET. Since you already have drag radials try warming them up a lot, with the pressure around 16-17 before the burnout, then flash the converter (don't stall it up) sometimes this can result in better 60' times.

Also try some weight reduction. Pull the spare and jack, remove the front sway bar (this will also help the 60') take out the passenger seat and the back seat. I always remove the driver side floor mat to make sure it isn't preventing me from getting WOT.

Find out what the ses light is , how many miles on your car, and have you tuned it up lately..with 273gears i wouldnt brake stall it , that why your 60ft is down , just put in in D and launch off idle , Ill bet you will get faster...

When I had the stock converter, I would stall it to 1500-2000 rpms until the tires were about to break loose. 2.0 60 out of it. Even if he did get a 2.0 60, his ET would be 13.7. Something else is going on, get the SES light scanned.

Also your MPH is a bit low in the 1/8th, should be around 83-84 with those mods. I had the same mods as you, lid & catback but with street tires. Get those nittos hot.

My Times are in sig.
Running radials with a basically stock car just hurts the cars time because you dont have enough power to get goin, so it bogs the car down.. it needs that wheel spin. As far as 60' A4 racing.. Ive had the best results with under 1000 rpm brake t, and manual shift.. gave me same a 2.13 60' w/ 106.7 trap speed.. then doing the same brake T. in D.. I got a 2.24 60' w/ 106.1 trap speed.. and then finally D from idle I got a 2.22 60' w/ 106 trap speed. Course all cars are different .. just my $0.02

Well, I think I'm just gonna have to run it some more and try a couple different things to see what works best. Also, the SES ended up being some random AIR stuff I think, I need to get ahold of the guy who checked the codes for me so I can get what it was exactly. Also, he said it was running pretty lean. Could that hurt my times that badly?

I don't think I'd want to stall it that high. I can get 2.06 60 foots from mine on stock Goodyears launching at 1000 rpm. You want the convertor to flash a little, otherwise all you're doing is pushing the car out of the beams instead of launching it. With a better 60 foot in the 2.0 range you could crack off some 13.70s.

Running lean and pinging are never a good thing, get the SES light and tune figured out. Also keep in mind whereever you are running, June is not the best month for personal best ets. Even at a low DA range track (Gainesville is 125+ DA) in the summer we regularly see 2500-3500 DA ranges, then in the winter it can get down to the negative #s

Good luck!

Derek

Well, I took her to autozone today and turns out the SES light is for it running lean and something being up with the cats.
