Default Slower than I thought?

I took my 1998 Trans Am to the track yesterday to see what it would run just for the heck of it. What I didn't realize was how slow it would be, although I have a 4.70 Super Quick Dragster so anything really feels slow. LOL

The car is a completely stock A4 (with ram air hood) other than a K&N FIPK system. I do have 18" wheels on the car, so I realize that is going to slow me down some. I left the line about 1500 rpm after a mild burnout. It pulled hard until 3rd gear where it felt like it sort of fell on it's face. I had the traction control turned off and didn't spin also.

60ft - 2.078
660ft - 9.211
MPH - 77.89

Any tips or performance upgrades (that aren't too radical or expensive as it is my daily driver) to make this any faster? This just seems really slow to me compared to what I've read and was expecting at least 8s...

I'm not a guru on the A4 cars, but I know that my car woke up a lot after long-tubes. That might be more than you'd like so how about a stall, port your own throttle body, and a cat-back? Those would net you some decent gains and I would think would put you into the 8's. Only one way to find out though. Good luck.

Something is wrong. I had the same MPH when my A4 LT1 was stock. (sometimes 78MPH)

Chris, does your car have the 2.73 rear end? This could be part of it.

You need to have some sort of looser converter to get it down the track faster

A 2.73 geared car running ~78mph in the 1/8th should never even get to 3rd gear... Try keeping the shifter in "2" and see if that helps some. If it's going into 3rd in the 1/8th mile, that's gonna slow you down a bit.

+1

If you are planning on doing any modding, you might want to look at a nice torque converter for your first mod. This would help you out with the 2.73's.
