13's on Nitrous

cant get out the 13's. WTF is wrong, is it the driver.

only mods are lid, bellow, filter, borla exhaust w/o plate, and nitto D/R's.

my best time N/A was
60' 2.146
1/4 13.878
mph 102.61

nitrous jetted at 75 hp shooting from first gear up at 3000rpm and shutting off at 5200rpm manualy.
60' 2.164
1/4 13.218
mph 109.75

60' 2.155
1/4 13.180
mph 109.71

my buddy with a 01 ws6 full weight & 290 lb driver, mods slp flo pac, ported TB, and cut out, on street tires got a best of 13.4 @ 103. and it was his first time at the track.

afterwards we did a N/A street run 1 passanger in his car, and i would beat him.
Whats going on?

Sounds like you may need a tune. that trap is good for a high 12. Get some gears or a stall in that thing.

It's the tires. Your 60' times are horrible (not trying to be mean, just stating why your times are not impressive) Also, you're 98 has a different cam and different intake than your buddies 01. It's all in the 60'. In general every .1 you knock off your 60' will equate to .2 in the 1/4. So, imagine a 1.8 60' compared to your 2.1

what kind of teqnique do you guys use?
I drove through the waterbox and did a burnout, staged, reved to about 1700rpm, and launch at the last yellow. Tires are almost new, and where at 18 PSI.

I'd rather have a slow T/A than have a fast stang, but I'd sure like faster T/A so I want to fix whatever is going on.

You guy's helped me narrow it down to my 60'er, my buddys are doing better on street tires than me and I'm on D/R's.

Beside's the driver what kind of things can cause a poor 60', because I honestly don't think it's me (A4)?

I have full weight and im about 240 LB's, wheels in the rear are 18" alluminum c-5 wheels with 285/35/18 D/R's with 18-20 PSI @ the track. Launched at 1700 RPM.

You have 18" rims. There's part of it. If you're spraying out of the hole, the nittos are not going to hook. Try and borrow a set of 16" rims with sticky tires and then spray out of the hole. When I was stock, with stock converter, I put a set of M/T tires on my car and the 60' got worse b/c the car would hook and bog. With nitrous, you shouldn't have that problem.

are you heating the DRs up?? heat them up for abour 10 secs and lower them to 12 psi you should net 1.8 60's.. that is what i did on my stang lol

gmpower Nov 3, 2006 02:55 AM

Yeah, real healthy burnouts, tire pressure @ 18-20PSI.Tire size 285/35/18, Nitto 555R's.

Try to drive around the water if you can, then back up into the water, then pull out and heat your tires. If you can do that, your front tires wont get water on them and track the water down the path of your rear tires. This should help a little.

I have skinnys on the front and still drive around the water...

That's the only thing I can remember doing different on my run in my sig, then the runs I did. I didn't dirve around this time because the guys sweeping the track were standing there.

I ran a 13.8 bone stock in my '97 auto. 13.4 with headers/intake/tune. You should be running the same times in your LS1 auto. Especially with drags. Also, those 18's are holding you back.

Say.... I have a set of 16's for sale that you could use for the drag strip....I could part the tire off and sell them to you for a good price!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mattraypharbor Nov 8, 2006 12:28 PM

hell i went 13.4 with the stock airbox and nothing but a gay flomaster catback though stock y pipe and stock manifolds
basicly bone stock on some off brand street tires...
