Race Report: National Dragster Challenge Night
First, I'm not racing as much this year as I'm still trying to get the Nova project back together. As project typically go, it snowballed into more than I thought it would be at first. So I went out last night for Gainesville Raceway's National Dragster Challenge (each class winner gets a Wally).
The two qualifying hits netted a 13.165 at 106.52 mph with a 2.041 60 foot and .024 light, second a 13.139 at 106.67 mph with a 2.042 60 foot and .020 light.
Round one and two I got red-lights from the opponents while the Formula clicked off 13.112 and 13.123 elasped times. Round three opponent was 11.18 on 11.18, but with a .186 reaction time my 13.15 on a 13.11 with an .040 light worked out!
Round four was a race with a past track champ, and he 'treed me by 25 thousandths. We both run similar MPH, so by 800 feet we're looking at each other. I'm guessing he'll hit the brakes and hope I breakout, so I "figured" his dump, tapped the brakes to go 13.102 on a 13.10 dial to his 12.507 on a 12.48. Stripe? 8 ten-thousands to me.
Round five with five cars left I get paired with a good friend I had beat in a previous wally race final in 2004, so I figured he'd come loaded. I'm 13.09 on a 13.07 dial with a .050 light, he's 10.53 on a 10.51 with a .031 lihgt. Thank you sir, good night!
He ended up winning the wally about an hour later, so I was happy to see him get the statue (and losing to the overall champ takes some of the sting away)!
Hope everyone had a good weekend of racing, post up!

Sounds like you had a good night of racing Derek. Last week we had 1/4 in Orlando and I made it down to 8 cars I had a few good lights but last couple were bad (I won a round w/ .160 light). Last night my car started giving me problems not running the # , I think my converter took a crap after 4 years of racing. Out 2nd round.

Dave,
Hope you get her back together. 4 years of beating on a converter at your power level without a failure isn't too bad.
Coach, I see you're up to your old tricks again eh? Good job!
Yeah I gobbled a tenth of stripe, I should know better!
