stud length rule check Ok just swapped out my stock 1.5" studs for apr 2.5" studs and well they dont go as far as i wanted but also dont look retarted with my stock rims on like the 3.5s would have. Anyway just wanted to make sure I am reading the rule correctly
Nhra states
Wheel studs must be threaded into hex portion of lug nut a distance at least equal to the diameter of the stud
So that means it would have to go halfway in to the head section of the shank lug or go past the red line (lets say that is the halfway mark of the head section cause tech itwould be open end not closed like the pic)

NMCA/NMRA is usually strict on rules and go by the NHRA rulebook (IHRA if track racing at applies) to the letter. If you are the least bit fuzzy on clearance, call you local tech director and ask them for clarification. Check out www.nhra.com for a list in your area.

I have had to take a lug nut off before to let the inspector measure it. The stud must penetratethe hex portion of the lug nut, at least the diameter of the stud. It's pretty simple. If you have a 1/2 in stud, take the lug nut off, turn it around and measure how deep it goes into the hex.

yea mine are 2 full turns from def passing. measured a bunch of **** checked etc. I'm going to order longer studs and the puller tool and do them after this weekend for but this weekends race looks like i'm cutting my other set of arp's up and making some false fronts

To late, I'm not a fan of false fronts and normally wouldnt do it but these are so close to passing its not even funny. I know I will be good at the one track , but the other the guys are dicks. I litterally am 1mm away from being fully legal. If I had stock studs yea I wouldnt be doing false fronts I'd be running my stock rims

One thing I can promise you, is that if the stud is sticking out the end of the lugnut, they are NOT going to give you any crap about it.
I'm on a 5.8 rear stud now so I run the big alum washer and the nut and the stud still sticks out a bunch there, and the fronts are a 1/2 inch stud that also sticks out of the lugnuts on the front.
If they're out the end of the lugnuts, you will never have a problem. Looks goofy with stock wheels, but the only people that would ever say anything are the ones that have no clue.
