12 Bolt guys, sub 11's

How are your 12 bolt units holding up to the abuse? What do you have, and what gears are in it. Has anyone broken a 12 bolt and how? I have a T56 and understanding as well, is that stick cars are much harder on parts in general.

I have a Moser 12 bolt in my car with 31 spline axles and 3.73 gears. To date it has held up very well, racing it pretty hard for 3 years. Lately I have noticed that the gears are getting much louder and I am wondering how much more it can take.

Any input would be appreciated.

9.82, many 1.3x 60fts sometimes on a transbrake. Never a problem with 4.10 gears, a posi, and 31 spline axles. This is a Moser.

With my stick I destroyed the posi. I shot a spider gear through the cover, another one locked onto my ring gear and was pulled through the pinion until it locked up. When that locked up the driveshaft stopped spinning but the motor was at full rev. That little T56 didn't survive that one.

I put a spool back in it and switched to a TH400. It's been working great ever since. It's now a Strange Moser lol.

The only advice I can give you is to watch your launches. If they end up being stickier than what you would expect, you're probably destined for trouble. If it comes out of the hole pretty smooth, you probably don't have much to worry about. If you are 99% on the street then it probably won't be a big deal.

I broke the Eaton Posi in my moser also, I got lucky, one of the teeth off one of the spider gears got caught between the ring and pinion, and wedged it between the ring and the posi case.

I am running a stick also, launching a 6000-6200 on a 150 shot(dead hook) 60fts. 1.45-1.5 range. I also switched to a strange spool.

You could try running a little more air in your tires to soften the launch up.

My 33-spline 4.10 geared Moser held up to two years of track use. 1.48 avg 60' times at 3600 lbs of car. It did get louder and louder thru its life though. The drag racing gears are softer than street gears, in order to absorb shock better (less brittle). But, they will deform over their life, causing the loud gear whine.

Any part can break. But I put more confidence in my Moser then I do in some of my other top shelf parts.
4.10 gears/Spool/33 Spline....transbrake, slicks. I'm building the car with the new philosophy of building a base capable of 8 second passes, before I even start working on an actual motor that is capable of hitting those numbers. Your 12 bolt is tough. Have a little faith.

my strange held up to the power, but it made alot of noise. we switched over to the wider ntn berings and all new seals and shims with 4.10 and it seems pretty quite compared to what it has been in the past. we will see how quiet it stays after some launches.

I run a moser 12 bolt.31 spline axles,3130 or 3110 yolk.(same size as stock)

The rearend itself has about 250 passes.
I used to ran a 4.10/eaton but changed to a 4.30/spool.
Never broke anything..but the car is light.
Launching in the high 6k range(6500-7000)
pulls 1.52 average 60',low 1.4'on the juice.

My best advice is keep the clutch just below the friction point so it is 'tickled'.This helps keep the driveline locked so it doesn't shock the hell out of it when you launch.

BTW-ONEBADWS6 destroyed the ring and pinion on his moser(along with various driveshafts)and rip the mainshaft in half on his T-56.

Happy motoring. :)

I drove 250 miles today to the track and back. My gears are definitely starting to make a lot of noise these days :(. The car still feels fine just louder now, I have also noticed what sounds like a rumble under the car right around 2200 rpm at cruise coming from under the car. I guess it is just getting tired.

Over the winter I'll have it pulled apart and looked at. I am wondering if I might have a hammered bearing in there somewhere.
