lt-1 in the 9's ????'s looking at purchasing an lt-1 roller for a street/strip project... looking for something running mid-low 9's consistently on a decent nx shot and high-mid 10's on motor... i was thinking of trying to keep it stock cubes with a turbo 400 and a 12 bolt. what would be my best motor options for the lt-1?? i have had multiple ls-1's and know nothing about the lt-1 so much help is needed!! i was looking at the lt-4 conversion but dont know if the rated 425hp conversion would be enough to get me to 10's on motor. anyone have good advice??? Thanks for the help in advance Gregg |

Thanks for the help in advance Gregg btw you will need about 600 fwhp to get to mid 10`s with a th400 and 12 bolt forget the LT4 comversion you wil be lucky to get 11`s with it with a th400 and 12 bolt(25% drivetrain power loss) ;) |
Yea LT1's just need more mods to be as fast as a LSX equivlent. Thats why I moved on. Your talking biggest cubes that run reliabily. I would say is 396, but there has been motors that have done better, they are just not that common. Your talking a direct port type system for anything over 150, its call gutting the car to an inch of it's life and putting all the safety shit in there and make sure it can run the # when you for NHRA lic passes. It's not un heard of, just uncommon becuase you spend more $$$ per tenth then you do on LSX. |
put a big block in the car lol. |
ya i know its a lot easier with an ls..... how do they respond to different types of fi?? turbo or superchager??? or a big block?? not a bad idea i got a big block sitting at home anyhow |

My 355 lt1 with some home ported heads cc306 cam street tune th400 9 in went 11.90's N/A And I had a plate system that I hit with 300 and never had a problem that ran for three years like that. LT4 stuff is a waste I agree, look into Advanced induction talk to phil. I think you were talking solid roller cam? the downfall is the pcm wont support the engine speed past 7000rpm unless you have a 96-97 car and then the value you enter @7000 is the value for any speed after that point. For a 300 shot I do question the distribution capabilities of the dog house of the intake, #1 cyl is the ones that often gets starved. If I was making a purpous built race car I would also look for a aftermarket engine management and convert the car to coil per cyl and use the opti as a pick up for the trigger or just have a magnetic pickup for the crank. |
If the car is a roller I would do an LSx setup or BBC. LT1 strokers ain't cheap either. |

i think going mid-low 9's on stock cubes is possible. you will need a light car with good suspension. i went mid 10's in an LT1 car with only a cc503 cam, 150 shot, and bolt-ons. |

how hard would it be to throw a bbc in there?? motor mount and height wise and all that stuff??? i would b more happy throwing a bbc with a turbo 400 in there!!! |
BBC Check out the SBC/BBC section for info. Most of the LT1 guys have moved on.... a few still around but not many... 9's is pretty easy but past that you run into issues. Fastest ever was high 8's if I remember right. |

We went a low 9 last weekend on a 150 shot in a LT1 car. I am not sure what the cubic inches are in this car. My friend bought this car turn key. It used to hold the record for fastest LT1. A guy out of Canada built it. He has since passed away, but he built this car right. 14:1 compression, crank trigger and distributor, 9" and a glide. ITS NICE. |

Rick Intrau (Big Rick) went 8.08 with a set-up that wasn't anything crazy. If that was the supercharged convertible LT1, I dont think he owns it anymore. If this is the guy I am thinking about, he was doing some shady shit and isnt around anymore. But that was a long time ago, if anyone wants to clarify, they are more then welcome to. |
