Default Removing A/C questions!

ok so i read the weight reduction sticky and it says-
15..AC compressor
8.6.AC condenser
21..AC fan motor (entire assembly)
so that would be about 44 and a half pounds...

But my question is i know the condenser is the thing by the radiator, but where is the compressor and the fan motor assembly? Could anyone take a picture of an LT1 engine bay and label them to show me where those parts are? I'm on the fence about removing the A/C and am just curious how much it would clean up the engine bay and it obviously removes decent weight.

Thanks!

The condenser is in front of the radiator.

The compressor is under the power steering pump on the passenger side of the engine.

You'll want to leave the fan assembly since it's also responsable for cooling the engine.

Most will remove all the lines to the evaporator and then leave it open or plug it with somthing like this: http://www.pcmforless.com/index.php?...d=98&Itemid=98 (scroll to bottom)

If you plug all lines once their removed they can be reinstalled later if you want AC back. You can do a search on removing AC and see pics of others who have removed the evaporator, this would be difficult with the engine still in place though!

Your HVAC system performance should not be affected by engine vaccum.

P.S. don't forget to get an AC delete pully to maintain stock belt routing (idle pully which replaces the compressor)

Good luck!!

Thanks for the help man, much appreciated. Now you said to not remove the fans so i would be taking out about 25lbs then? Anyone have pics with the condensor and all that removed with to see how it all cleans up the engine bay?

That bottle thing is the Resivior. I'm still running Heat, that is why I said those 2 lines are for the Heater Core. I still have the Blower in there too.

I just cut the AC Box inhalf, and took the AC stuff out because that sits on the outside of the Fire Wall in the Engine Bay. All the stuff for Heat is behind the Fire Wall in the Passengers Compartment.

So how did you manage to cut the box in half? With a cut off wheel, or what? Also, does your air still get directed where it needs to go? I thought that little trap door/air director on the inside was partially outside too?

As far as removing the evaporator, at least on a 93-97 (don't know what changed for 98+s) you can do that from the inside of your car on the pass. side. Remove glove compartment, and side kick panel, and panel under dash. Remove heater box cover, heater core, and voila, you're staring at the evaporator. Just have to cut out the little section of plastic (has marks on it where to cut)that it is behind, and pull it right out. Just be careful when putting the heater core back in, it's a pain... The second time I did it it leaked, and now the heater box cover doesn't quite fit on the way it's supposed to.

Yea, I used a Dremel to cut it. The little Door that directs the air is fully in the Passenger's Compartment. You have to cut some of the plastic out of the way for the Blower Motor to blow into the Heater Core though.

I have to re-do mine, there is quite a few air leaks in the way mine is. I need to make some better ducting for it.

Where does yours leak? Is it at the panel you made for the firewall, or behind there? I wouldn't mind if it leaks air, as long as it still does it's job when the fan is on high...

Yea, alot of the Air that the Blower Motor blows goes everywhere intstead of into the Heater Core. The Panel is fine, I sealed all that in.

It does the job on high, it feel like it did on medium though. I need to get in there and fix it when I get a chance.
