10's NA? Wondering if it's possible to get 10's NA. I was thinking heads with a BIG cam, nice big stall (maybe Vig 3600?) Full bolt-on's of course. Oh, and full interior. Is it possible without gas or a blower? |
Re: 10's NA? You don't need a BIG cam and a BIG stall to do it. A moderate cam (say a 220-224) and a moderate converter (say a 3800-4000) can get the job done. However, I'm NOT saying that it's easy! Careful selection of components is the key. Weight reduction, a good track, and great weather are all too important as well. My '02 ran 11.82 with an internally stock engine with no weight reduction (ok, so I pulled the spare tire and jack) and with stock gears. If you want to see how to do NA 10s with a heads/cam engine while remaining 100% perfectly streetable, stay tuned over the coming year. :burn: |
Re: 10's NA? It is more than achievable with a much smaller cam than you would imagine. I went 10.8 using the Hammer (c1)cam: 222/222 then 10.6 using the C2 cam: 224/224 Converter? Consider the Yank TP4200, it has worked for me and many others like gang busters Also 10.8's have been done using the C1 and a Yank Super Thruster 3500 by a few folks. Weight, track and TRACTION all part of the combo to consider, but it is VERY achievable. Both on the 10.8's and the 10.6's after the runs at the track, I drove the car to work as it was my only mode of transportation. Work on TRACTION and wait for some good weather. Choose parts that are PROVEN to work and work well. Good luck. |
Re: 10's NA? A guy locally has done that, and his car is 3350 raceweight with a 10 pt 'moly cage. Most of the cars I have seen run 10's with stock bottom end have been either super light and made okay power, or heavier like the 3350 example I gave above and made great power. Raceweight is key... Your TA is 3700 raceweight stock with a 200 lb driver. I know another car that just went 11.02 with stock heads and TB, but it was 3200 raceweight. Most of the 10 NA folks I have seen have run cams like 226's, 228's, and 230's, and also the LG G5X2 cam. |
Re: 10's NA? Well, I really don't want to do any weight reduction, so I don't know what my choices are. I mean, I can do simple stuff, but I still want full interior. As for a stall, how would anything more than 4000 do on the street? What about a 230-something cam? Still streetable. I guess I forgot to mention this would still be my daily driver, and be a kick-ass street machine at that (not just Drag-ready) I'm asking for too much, aren't I? :( |
Re: 10's NA? Well let's say you did skinnies and a kmember, you can get the car down to 3550/3600 raceweight but if we look at my example agove you will be in the 11.2/11.3 range. |
Re: 10's NA? What if I redo the bottom end and stroke it out to 382? Will it be easier then? |
Re: 10's NA? Much easier. Another buddy has a 99 TA A4, and with a 382ci he got down to 11.13 with no weight reduction except for skinnies, but he also added a 6pt cage so he was probably a solid 3600 raceweight. Car still had the bumper supports and a/c and everything. |
Re: 10's NA? Hey John, why are you answering threads about 10s NA? LOLOLOL! :p |
Re: 10's NA? Oh for the record I went 11.02 with my car but had crankshaft problems, and Tony went 10.6 with a big motor but his motor was pulled and replaced three times while he owned it. Owned! |
Re: 10's NA? Thats okay, because my lil 382ci with a 232 cam still ran 11.0s like your big 422ci motor, and it is currently in someone's daily-driver with over 50K miles on it. :p btw, my 434ci was only pulled twice - warranty work :D |
Re: 10's NA? Adding cubes will always make it easier. Little or No weight reduction on a N/A 346 running 10's? Man that would be hard to beleive, i guess it would be possible. If everything was perfect...maybe. Word to wise, nothing about it would be simple or cheap for a 3700 pound race weight car to run 10's with the stock bottom end N/A. |
Re: 10's NA? Well I guess it's solved then, I've gotta go the 382 route. No bigge. All I know is I'm gonna do all the bolt-on's and H/C before I redo the bottom end. Might be better that way. Thanks for all the help guys! |
Re: 10's NA? It's definitely doable. It's all about the right combination. Pay attention to the little details. It's also all about how bad you want it. If the components compliment each other..it'll happen, but it doesn't come easy. Good luck to ya!! Keep us posted. James |
Re: 10's NA? Weight reduction does not mean stripping the car. My car has gotten pretty light and still maintains all the interior and all amenities. Only thing missing from the interior is the rears seats and their belts. On race day I pull the rear speaker panels, divider, and the passsengers seat. All take less than 15 mins to replace. |
Re: 10's NA? it's still not 'easy' even with a 382. it will take a good track, tires and good weather combination. not to mention the driver. :drive: |
