This car will be driven only to the track which is about 3 miles away any where else it will be trailered. and the 60e is mine and the 400 is my brothers he wants to trade me. I just wanted to see if I'm getting the better end of the deal. And is my gears reall too low? I made a thread a while back saying that with a 400 I should think about a 4:88 gear?

My car with true duals is loud enough with the 4l60E in it. With a TH400 it would be even louder. Thats why I don't consider it streetable for me.

are you running the 1/8 mile or the 1/4 mile?
go with the th400 for that kind of power.

So maybe the 4:88's will work for you.
I'll tell you what though, 4:88's and a non lock up th400 is definately instreetable, even with 30" tires,IMO.
3 miles to the track will seem like 50 miles with that combo.

For a 60e to handle that kind of power, your going to have to have to lighten it up even more, and you going to spend about $4,000. It will have to have billet input and output shafts, and it still won't be as strong as a 400 IMO. You could do a 400 with a brake, good set of clutches, 36 element intermidiate sprag and call it a day. Just have to freshen it up about every 2 seasons. I build transmissions, and I wouldn't waste your time with a 60. Just my .02

th400 for sure
car is to heavy
too much power for the 4l60
id go 3.73 to 4.10s at the the most but to see what works for you. you might want to start low and work up and change tire size around to see what works
good luck

Go the route I did... Spend big $ on a top of the line 4L60-E, make a trip to the dyno and few trips to the track, be impressed with what the tranny can hold, decide you want to go even faster, make more HP, realize the 4L60-E is going to give up sooner than later, realize that a near new top of the line 4L60-E is worth something and a trashed 4L60-E is not, decide not to chance it to recoupe some cost of a TH400, buy RMVB T-braked TH400 with billet shafts, sell 4L60-E for 65-70 cents on the dollar... Seriously, do it .

then its your exhaust that is unstreetable

i run a stock dual/dual catback and at 3500 rpms at 70 mph its not bad at all. in fact, my car is damn quiet.

i dont understand your choice of gearing, unless you jst dont want to spend the money. i run a 28" tire and 3.73 gears and my car will 60' with 90% of the cars on this site.

Originally the guy had asked about what gear would be best for the track... for a 4200 lb car that's running mostly 1/8th mile, a gear like a 4.88 would probably help alot.

Streetable, not the best for sure I agree with that. But we were talking about the best possible track setup.

4.30's with a 30 inch tire would be fine on the street. I drove around with 4.10's, a 5200 rpm converter and a Th400 for a summer, it was fine.

I'm on a 3.73 with a 28 inch tire now and my junk will run the # as well though... so the gearing is more of a power/weight thing.

Car comes back out it's gona be a little different though, not sure what gears are gonna be in it.

Street use don't matter the car will only be driven about 3 miles to the track. And the track is open once every month and a half. If I want to go to the 1/8th mile it will be trailered. And like jl ws6 said I'm looking for the best possible track set up.

If you want a street machine, that's one thing. But if you are bracket racing, which you probably are, go 400. Stay away from the 350 unless you are heads up class racing.

Definitely go with the 400, especially if you're only driving 3 miles to the track. The 400 is way stronger and more reliable than the 60e, much cheaper, and I would bet make the car ET better as well. I really think it's a no brainer for you, especially considering that you're going to be making a lot of power in a heavier vehicle. Go with the 400, you won't regret it

I'm doing a Competition TH350 and 8 inch converter swap now. Getting rid of the 4L60e. Too many problems to deal with for drag racing.

I vote for the TH400, im sure the 4l60 can be built to handle power but the 400 has been a top choice trans for drag for a reason. Once im able to build a drag car it will be either a th350 or th400.
