built 60e vs built th400 help me choose.
I have a choice for my ls1 swap its either a built4l60e (stage 2 performabuilt) or a built th400 with a tb and rmvb. Which is more efficent for drag racing. Having a rvmb don't matter. If I go with the 60e the pcm can shift for me. I'm leaning towards the 60e and its a built 383 ls1 with probably a 200-300shot. The gears are 4:56s tire size is unknown but give me your thoughts and opinions. Don't just vote. Thanks.

there is no comparision b/w the strength and application b/w a TH400 and 4L60e. i can tell you that you will be rebuilding the 4L60e, no mater WHO gives you some pretty guarantee at the end of the season if you are spraying that much on a healthy 383. a TH400 you will have no problems and will only need a mild freshening (cheap and easy) after a few hundred runs on nitrous.
i dont personalyl like the big first gear of the 4L60e as they tend to not like coming out of the hole hard.
as for gearing, you are way off unless you want to trap 115 mph or run a 30+ tall slick (or turn 8000 rpms)

Race your car!

There's only 5 people that voted in this poll that are completely wrong.
To put anything other then a TH400, or a TH350 in the car (TH400 in your case since you have it already) would be foolish at best. 4L80 is a viable option, but the weight is huge and honestly unless you plan to commute 50 miles a day with the car there's absolutely no need for the overdrive, especially with track performance being key.
One thing is for sure, anyone telling ya that a 4Ljunkie will work for you has no clue, and has never made any power and tried to run one of those POS transmissions.. if you even want to call it that.

+1 JL.
4L60e are great for stock motors. hitting it with any amount of real torque will quickly destroy it. every tranny builder has some kind of great talk and line, but all fail and fail quickly. you might get a hero run a two, but if you plan on beating on it, do the TH400.
also, it takes a lot of money to make a TH350 on a brake work as good as a mild TH400 with brake. to me, the little bit of weight means nothing. its not like the guy is going out there racing in a class with race weight minimums.
BTW, i dont understand guys that think TH400s are unstreetable. most of them have never driven one on the street.
