The Rookie vs. the 25.5 project. 5 Attachment(s) I've been inspired by some of the build threads on this site so I went for it with my own project. I've used this site for some of my ideas, tips and parts. I want to thanks those who have helped me from here and the sponsors that have supplied me with many of the parts. Hopefully some of you will see this car at the 2010 LSX-shoot... Still lots of work to do, but it's getting closer! Attachment 194293 This is what I started with. 1999 Camaro. No engine or trans. $750.00 Attachment 194294 Here it is gutted. Attachment 194295 Another gutted pic and some clean up. Attachment 194296 Starting to cut out for the Wolf mini tubs Attachment 194297 Another tub cut out pic. |
5 Attachment(s) Here are some axle mock-up pics. I ordered housing and axles from EPP. And the rear control arms and torque arm from BMR. The tires are 325's Attachment 194298 Attachment 194299 Attachment 194300 Attachment 194301 Attachment 194302 |

5 Attachment(s) Here's the 3rd member. It's a Strange Ultra 9" with a 40 spline spool. The seat are Pro Mod Kirkey's. The last two pics are cut-outs for Wolf sun-frame connectors. Attachment 194312 Attachment 194313 Attachment 194314 Attachment 194316 Attachment 194317 |
5 Attachment(s) Attachment 194328 If you're gonna build a cage, ya gotta have a tubing bender. It's a manual bender, but it works great. Attachment 194329 Tubing notcher I got of ebay. It was a floor model so I got a break on the price. This sucker works GREAT!!! But it is freakin' LOUD!!!! Attachment 194330 Attachment 194331 Attachment 194332 |

Again, I want to thank the folks who answered my questions in the section and all the other builders that posted their pictures in here. I'm sure several of you will see a little bit of your car in my car if you look closely. And if you see something that's effed up, that's "my" design. :D |
by the time he is done posting pics tonight, you might see it done. LOL very nice build, keep the pics coming!!! |

(Sponsor or vender of a sponsor) It cost big money to advertize here so I thought they would like to see their stuff in this build. |
5 Attachment(s) OK... This is where I think I started leaving the 25.5 spec. behind and started heading towards the 25.2 spec. I'm going to order the 25.2 SFI book and see what I need to keep going. I'm going to put bars up front in the engine bay... and I still need to put all the bar under the car. So before I do that, I want a peek at a 25.2 book. All the bars are CM so I think I'm good to go in that direction. Attachment 194338 Attachment 194339 Attachment 194340 Attachment 194341 Attachment 194342 |
subscribed, great build so far. everything looks awsome! |
Awesome work man. I bet it feels nice to be doing all that on your own. |
4 Attachment(s) Here is a mock-up of the Maddman front mid plates. I wanted the mid plate removable but I wanted it secure. I also didn't want the engine to "banjo" back and forth inside the engine compartment. I saw how some of you guys put a bar across the back of the firewall to hang the mid plate. It will work, but I "think" it would still be able to move back and forth under extreme conditions... But I could be wrong. So I decided to make a brace off the back side of the mid plate and attach it to the cross bar of the cage. Notice it's still removable by removing the two large bolts that go through thick wall sleeves to the bracket. Nuts are welded onto the sleeves so you don't have to crawl under the dash to hold them. Folks, I can tell ya... This sucker isn't going anywhere until you want it to... And once the dash is installed, you won't even know it's there. :D Attachment 194344 Attachment 194345 Attachment 194346 Attachment 194347 Attachment 194348 |
