Pictures of Jay Johnson's SS 5 Attachment(s) I uploaded 50+ pics of Jay's car here: http://groups.msn.com/LS1pics/shoebox.msnw?Page=1 I was extremely impressed by the look (and sound) of the car. Look for it to bust a 9.xx next time out. Here's a few teasers. |
here's the 10.08 post: https://ls1tech.com/forums/drag-racing-tech/115741-402ci-ls1-based-motor-runs-10-08-a.html |
Very nice! Someone put a lot of work into that car. Looks very capable of 9-seconds to me :D |

Jay's Camaro is one of THE best looking LS1 drag cars out there right now. I saw it last year at the Spring Break Shootout. Very clean, very impressive. |
That thing looks pimp..love that cage.. very nice car.. |
those sure are some nice C5R valve covers. wonder where Jay got those from... ... & why the heck is the battery still in the front??! |
That's one badd ass ride!!!! I love the hood with the quick release fittings! |
I like the paint job.. I'd like to do something like that on my car.. :thumb: |
you cant see it from the pic's, but the color looks just a little different in different light (with the metallic), and on the edges of the maroon there are silver accent lines...kinda radom and rough lines....very clean looking. I think Jay has a couple things on the list of things to do, but he was able to pull some weight out of it this weekend before I showed up at the shop. |

Those diagnal cross bars look to be way too high to be legal. Maybe it's just me, or maybe he is really tall! Jeffrey |
NHRA rules state the side bars are supposed to pass in between the drivers shoulder and elbow when the driver is sitting in the seat. I always though that you had to had the forward bars connect throught the dash, but I double checked the rules, it says you only need to connect the forward down bars if you have removed more than 1 square foot of firewall or body for transmission access etc. I like the design of that roll cage, I am going to have to keep that in mind. I am installing a 10 point chromoly cage in a couple weeks. Does anyone know if Jay Johnson got that car NHRA certified for 9's? |
Thanks for the pic post. The cage is cert'ed for 9's and I am on my way to getting personally licensed. A rear-mounted battery will most likely give me no benefit at all. I've looked at it from a number of perspectives on my setup. That's not to say that others will not gain some benefit from a rear-mounted battery. The setup has put down a 10.08@135mph. First day on the track for this 402ci motor. Motor development will continue in it's positive path. Keith Craft and I are looking forward to what's to come in 2004. Jay Johnson |
Jay do you have C5R heads? Is the cam a solid roller? Whats the compression ratio if I may ask? |
