Default Th400 for up around 1,100-1,200hp what is reliable and somewhat affordable.

I havent really found a lot of good solid data on a few of the mid level trans. But I am on my second trans and Im tired of wasting money so I want one from a reputable place that will stand behind their products.

ATI has their Fuel Comp for $3,095
Rossler has their terminator 3 for $2,795 (I know people love the rossler stuff)
Coan has a few in that price range.

What am I missing. What have you guys had success with.

Trans brake RMVB.
3,200lb car with 1200ish hp. Maybe more if everything else works out.

You don't have to pay for name brand if you don't want. Maybe I got lucky, but I bought a used th400 off craigslist for $75, then I bought the $400 TCI transbrake, and then had a local performance shop build it for $900. So that puts me at $1375. It has all the cool race clutche, extra clutch packs, 4L80 sprag, and billet internal parts. I have gone 1.25 sixty on it so far. And I also make right almost 1200 flywheel.

So it's up to you, but that is an option to have it built locally.

I've heard RPM has a solid TH400 option. When I upgrade I'm going to look at them as other shops are having issues.

If I ever don't build my own T400, I will purchase from Rossler.

Mr. Rossler Is the man. Has to be one of the nicest guys you will ever speak to. He helped us out, pointing us in the right direction on which parts to get, and why. We had a friend help us put it together that knows Transmissions like the back of his hand. And he was so impressed with what went in the Reid case, and the advise from Mr. Rossler, that instead of asking for money. He Thanked me for the opportunity to help put such a piece together. But be prepared. It cost us $5500 just in parts including the Reid case, Bell, and tail. But WoW what a Trans. Works flawlessly. Thanks Mr Rossler. I call him Mr. because he disserves it. Big Time. So whether you build it yourself, or buy one already built. Do yourself a huge favor. Call Mr. Rossler. You won't regret it for one second.

I currently have a Rossler Terminator 3 Th400 for sale. Has a few upgrades and a CSR Kevlar shield. Has 45 passes on it and is in perfect condition. Save some money.

what I have learned to keep a 400 alive in a heavy fbody is you need a billet fwd clutch hub and a 36 element sprag. you will kill the stock sprag everytime if you spin on the 1-2 shift

RPM. Rodney is an awesome guy and will take care of you/others.

I personally watched him help racers take apart their transmissions at racetracks, even when he didn't build them.

Whatever you do, don't skimp out. Cutting corners in the transmission will cause more problems than you'll realize.

Out of curiousity, I will be running a th400 RMVB for the first time this year. What should you do if you are spinning? or on the 1-2 shift if it is spinning? I know you arent supposed to pedal it, but figured upshifting would be fine. Educate me so I dont blow it up. Thanks

Pull 2nd... If it wheelies, pull 2nd. If it spins, pull 2nd. If the shift light comes on pull 2nd.

Basically...... Pull 2nd lol. Unless the car is out of shape then let off... No point in wrecking it bacauae of its in 1st and it's not pointed the right direction pulling 2nd will just get it where you don't want it, faster.

absolutely. I have not had any breakage with my recent trans. It was just intermintent trans brake, losses of pressure, and such. 5 trans shops/guys have looked at it and said it was good to go and the only issue would be the valve body.
I actually tore the piece of **** apart last week lol.

I ended up ordereing a terminator 3 with a couple smaller upgrades, aluminum pan, and fittings for about $3,100. They said it will hold up to 1500hp and 3600lbs. So I should be plenty good to go.

I have heard nothing but good about them. So I figured I will give them my buisness.

They are also cnc the case and installing my previous ultra bell for $100 because they did not want me to touch the front pump bolts. I can appreciate the concern lol.

You made the right choice with Rossler. Carl is a good dude and they build very nice durable transmissions, not to mention the several choices for custom 1-2 gear ratios.

I've been using him exclusively now for several years and don't foresee that changing.

His prices are pretty high, but you get what you pay for and customer service is right up there at the top.

You can't go wrong with either, Rossler or Rodney at RPM. Both are good companies and I can attest to Rodney.. he'll help you no matter if you're using one of his transmissions or not.

I posted an ad a while back for $2500. I know that seems a little high, but it includes things like the CSR shield, a +2 qt cast aluminum pan and the bad *** loker dipstick.

My total bill on that trans from him was around $3200 if I remember right, so at $2500, that would basically be a 22% discount which i think is fair since it is still practically new (only 45 passes).

Shipping would be pretty easy as I live near some large shipping terminals and could put in on a wood pallet and secure/protect it very nicely.

Another benefit would be that I have the trans now, so no need to wait on him. He is a busy man and from my experience, realistic wait times right new could be anywere from 2-6 months.

You could probably cancel the order and we could deal if you wanted.

Either way, you are going to end up with a very nice/reliable transmission and have made the correct choice on what company to use.

Let me know.

I actually received the trans this past monday. It was approx 4 weeks total. I was surprised.I have a buddy that is going to go to a 400 this fall/winter so I was asking for him. I will let him know.

Super happy with the trans. Its amazing how much of a difference something good makes over something decent.
