Default TH400 swap. M6 crossmember. UMI K-member. NO SPACER needed?!?!

I read on here when doing a TH400 swap, with the TH400 tranny mount a 1 inch spacer or so should be used. However after bolting everything up The tranny was level to the vehicle and no spacer was needed. I recall that my tuner thought my UMI k=member sat my motor down a little further than stock. anyone else have any insights to this ?

I had my M6 prothane tranny mount and it looked like it would bolt up to the TH400 also. But I purchased the one recommended on here for a TH400 and it is a little taller. Is this the reason why a spacer is recommended >?

Just got my 400 in my car 2 weeks ago (waiting on denny's for a drive shaft now), anyway I went from a T56 to the 400 and have solid mounts so the engine didnt move at all when I took out the t56. I used the T56 crossmember with a 1" spacer that I made from a peice of square tubing with a stock 400 rubber mount and it fit like a glove. I had an energy suspension poly mount laying around my shop that was a few years old and NEVER been used, when I got ready to use it I noticed that the metal part that bolted to the crossmember was loose like it had separated from the poly, I'll never use one of those again, hence the reason I went with the stock rubber mount.

Holy Deep Pan Batman!
I went with the B&M 3" deep and it didnt hang that low. Be careful!

Regarding the spacer. I tried an M6 crossmember with no spacer when I did my convention, and had some vibration. Put a slightly larger than 1" spacer and it went away. Just an FYI. Yes, the guys at BMR confirmed what TurboZ28408 suspected. The new mount compensates for the spacer requirements.

Also, the stock rubber spacer versus the poly... the rubber one is a quieter solution thats for sure... but all the "Google Mechanics" out there say that it rips in half when you put a lot of power through the TH400. Let us know how it goes with your setup. Thanks man.

My research led me to go with a rubber mount, 99% of the people on YB.com go with the rubber mount & most of them due to the separation issue. Just my 2 cents though.

Hello,

Our K-member is designed to keep the engine in the same located as factory, we have done extensive testing and fitting to insure this. Since the bushing you are using is taller this has taken up the slack for the spacer and based on your picture it looks like you still need a smaller spacer. If you get any vibration after the install you will want to check pinion angle and see if the transmission needs raised at all.

Now get that together and test it out!

I have the exact combo mentioned. M6 crossmember, th400, UMI k member, and everything seemed to bolt up great without the shim. But as soon as I actually checked all of my angles, I noticed that it definitely needed a spacer. I kept shimming it up until I had all of the driveline geometry perfect. Then I measured the stack of shims and made a nice piece out of square tubing that was the same thickness. I believe it ended up being just a tad over 1'' thick.

I didn't use a spacer, but I made my pinion angle -1. I don't see how it's a problem though

It mounts/bolts to the tail housing on a T56 car.

Mine is mounted to the crossmember. I welded a bracket to it and my torque arm connects with a heim joint.

I used my M6 crossmember for my TH400 with a 1" spacer, I have a MadMan torque arm so it mounts to the crossmember that it comes with a little further back than the stock unit.

Quick Reply: TH400 swap. M6 crossmember. UMI K-member. NO SPACER needed?!?!
