Default legal firewall nhra

iv searched and went through the entire NHRA hand book and dont see a straight answere.

NHRA book says .024 for steel, but says nothing about filling holes such as ac area.

Searched ls1 tech and saw anything from .024 to .038 and .125

I made my own out of 1/8 inch steel, turned out nice but its kinda heavy. Im thinking 1/8 is for Aluminum.
Looking for the right answere as im picking up some more steel soon.

The steel is .024, that's correct. You can make an hvac delete plate from that and it will be legal, if you make it from alum, it needs to be pretty thick.

All the holes are supposed to be filled, they're not really strict on that if it's a factory firewall, but if you get a tech guy that's picky he will say something. I'd just have them all filled and be done with it.

.024 is 24 gauge steel and weight 1lb per square foot, aluminum is .45lb per sqaure foot and is 20 gauge.

Thats some thin stuff, i figured they would have wanted thicker considering how thick they want trany and bell sheilds. I might just pickup a 4x8 sheet of both.

Any body know why your not allowed to run a screw type super charger.

I don't know if you're not allowed to, more that it won't fit.

.

The firewall is not a safety shield. It's there to block fumes, fire, sparks, not chunks of rods & parts flying around.
It doesn't need to be that thick, just well designed & properly installed.

If you use aluminum, it needs to be .038 in thickness. That goes for the firewall & the rear bulkhead should you have one.

another question
are rivets legal on the firewall, i know if seen people use them.
asking because most rivets have small holes in them, although i dont think very many fumes would get through.

Im riveting mine in because i drilled the spot welds that held the engine bay side support ring that the ac box bolted to. Did this in order to shed even more weight.

i will rtv between firewall and delete plate.
