Default So who deleted their radio????

Well since I NEVER listen to the radio in the car and it just keeps turning more and more into a drag car, Ive decided the radio can go!! So after thinking of the best possible way to do a clean factory look, a fellow member from the site sent me a GM Factory Delete panel!!!!
THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH!!!!!!! I probably would have kept that heavy junk without a awesome way to do it.

So who else has ditched the radio and how did you do it???

I ditched the stereo in the Blue Beast. The cam lopes so hard that CD's simply would not play. So right before last year's shootout I pulled it out along with the rear Delco bass unit and the two door speakers. I haven't pulled the sail panel speakers... yet.

Ya you have to crank it to hear in my car anyways. Not worth the weight.

funny, i just pulled the radio today along with all the speakers. my car is not a DD, exhaust is too loud, and poly motor mounts make it impossible to listen to any cds

i wouldn't do it if the car wasn't a DD but if anyone's interested here are the weights from my Monsoon system:

head unit = 1.86 lbs
front speakers = 2.96 lbs
sail speakers = 1.18 lbs
rear speakers = 2 lbs? (only thing i didn't weigh)
power antenna w/ motor and bracket = 1.7 lbs

Total = 9.7 lbs

I didn't bother taking out all the extra wiring

I've seen a few guys just cut the back of it off and keep the face of it attached. Still looks like you've got a radio, but if you tried to put a cd in it would fall behind it.

I wanted to do it to Project Red Rocket, but that car got sold.

I would never do it to the present car, too much of a street car, not a strip car LOL

I took my head unit out, made an aluminum inset that holds my water temp/oil pressure gauge and the fuel pump/line lock switches. I dont have pics tonight, but if anyone wants to see I can take some tomorrow.

I've thought about doing something like this. I don't care too much about weight reduction, i just want to replace the radio with something i'll actually use, or simply nothing.

I'm really leaning towards putting in a screen attached to one of these tuning devices that data log and display everything you could possibly monitor on any car. Just an idea so far

I did a stealth delete. My radio didn't work so I hacked off the face plate. The face plate only weighs a few oz and the car still looks stock.
