Default Am I losing THAT much with my converter?

Every since I went with a TH400 and 4.33 gears my 60ft has been **** on motor. The best I've had so far was a 1.61 60ft, but I'm running 7.00-7.10's at 98Mph in this really hot weather and the DA this past weekend was a little over 3,000ft.

Back when the car was 3,612lbs, had a 4L60E, Circle D 5C, 4.11's I had no problem getting mid 1.4x 60fts

Now the car is 3,450 with me in it, TH400, 4.33 gear, Neal Chance converter, and I have got a 1.61 at best on motor. There's absolutely NO DIFFERENCE in the 60ft with the transbrake or just footbraking.

It just feels lazy as hell down low and then feels like the converter is falling WAY back out of the cam range.

Here's a log if anyone can help me out. I'm guessing it's the converter?

The IAT's were so high because I didn't run the carb. hat setup this pass. IAT's are usually 80-110 on a hot day.

have you tried leaving off a 2 step to give it a little more hit?

But yes the converter seems really tight, barely any flash at the hit and dropping 1400rpm on 1-2 gear. Also the 400 has a numerically less first gear ratio so that could make it slow down as well.

I've tried leaving anywhere from 1500-2500 on the footbrake. Anything under 2500 feels REALLY lazy.

I tried 3400-4500 on the two step and it like 4000 the best.

It works GREAT on a 150 hit and I think it will even take a 250, but I'm not trying to break records. I just need it to run good all motor.

I was expecting to lose a little in the 60', but considering the weight loss and stepping up to the 4.33's I figured it would help. It shouldn't have lost two tenths in the 60ft though.

Combine converter that tight and goig to a 400 I'm not supirsed with a 2 tenth loss at all. That's what sucks about converters, you can't have the best of both worlds with na and nitrous. You have to do one or the other. Sounds like I'd losing it up and you should still be able to hit it with 150 fine.

I kinda figured I could always hit it with a 100-150 shot even with an all motor converter.

If I can get into the 6.70-6.80 on motor I'd be tickled shitless. Actually....I have a spare converter out in the shop that I may send to BTE and have them re-stall it for all motor and keep this one for nitrous

Like I said, I'm not out to break records or anything. Just trying to have the car to full potential for all motor and consistency.

Gotta keep them dragsters in line

Just for comparison sake your current 4.33 gear coupled with the 400's first and a 28" tire, would have been like your old 60E with 4.10's and a 33" tire.

It's the converter. Send your other one out and have it set up for 5000 to 5500 and the car will move on motor no problem.

My old ucc n/a converter was a 5200, and I was able to run in teh 6.80 to 6.70 range @ 3550, with a 4.10 gear.

If you really want n/a performance I'd look into an 8 inch converter, call Greg @ FTI, or one of the sponsor's that can build you one. Just be ready to put it on the bumper.

Starting this thread is a good but if you have a NC vert, just call Marty, send him the logs and he will be able to tell you if it's the converter and what to do. Their customer service is awesome, no need for any guesswork here.

This would be your best bet, unless you know what you have works for when you want to spray the car and want a 2nd converter.

In that case, maybe it would be best to send the other one you have to marty and have him rework it... since he knows what you have now and with the above mentioned data it probably would be doable to adjust your other to where you want it to be for n/a use.

I've been having hell trying to get a hold of Marty ever since I got a NC. He's VERY sharp at what he does and I have NOTHING against the guy at all and I'm sure he's busy as hell on the phone all the time.

There's been times I've sat on hold for hours just trying to get a hold of him and sometimes I'll tell the girl who answers to have him call me back.

I'll try again today and see if I can get him.

I already spent $800 on the converter and sent it to Marty and spent another $645 having it "Re stalled" for my application. Which was an NA 370CI motor. I just don't want to be in the same boat again.

Just another thought: remember a softer leaving car makes for hooking when some have trouble on a tricky track, and the extra 1-2 mph for the e.t.s helps for finish line driving!
