Default Reference point on car for measuring and adjusting rear LCA's

My left side tire has been rubbing on the inner fender alot. And the right just a little so I wanted to take some time to re adjust everything. I went from the edge of the front door to the front of the tire and made them even but if I take the tape to the lip of the wheels I am off over 1/4 inch from right to left. I have taken the wheel assy off to go right off of the center of the axle but I am having a hard time finding a close to accurate reference point for both sides.

Where are you guys measuring off of to square the housing left to right? I do not trust the 2 fingers between rear fender and tire LOL.

U can use the centerline method. It's a bit involved, but worth the time.
Car on stands, suspension loaded, level ft/rear, side 2 side.
Wheels off. Plumb lines from c/l of all wheel mounting faces to the floor. Mark w/ x's.
Measure from side to side ft and rear. Divide by 2 ='s centerline of chassis.
Pull a string line TIGHTLY thru the c/l marks.
Now, measure about 50-60" up the c/l line from the rear axle.
Then measure from the x's at the rear axle ends, to the 60" mark.
Should be the same. If not, rear axle is in the chassis crooked.
For side to side location, the distance from the c/l to the x's at the axle ends should tell you if the rear is centered in the chassis.
You can repeat the process on the ft end. You can also determine if the w/b whacked.

The above is correct EXCEPT dont use the front spindles. The car could have stagger in it from alignment etc. We use the factory line up holes under the car.

Thanks guys. I am not sure of the factory line up holes you are talking about. I did measure the opening of the rear wheel wells yesterday with the C/L of the axle with the wheels off and both were the same measurement like 29 7/8 opening. I split the difference and got the C/L of the axle to that mark on both sides. Not sure this is exact but could not come up with anything else yesterday as I was in the middle of some other adjustments.
