Default Help me pick gears for nitrous

I am getting a new MWC 9" and need know what gears for a 150 shot plate kit would be best for the track. Car is an 01' Camaro SS that will weigh 3150ish or less with me in it come track day, 28" bias plys, M6 trans, short tq arm.

I spoke to MWC a little bit about this and was thinking 4.11s or 3.89s but those will probably both be too much gear. I will be spinning the car to 7200ish rpm's. What do you guys think I should go with 3.70s?

I would play around with the calculator some

http://www.f-body.org/gears/

4.11's would be good to 145 or so.

Speak with JL-ws6, I have always trusted his advice with my car. Over 200 Nitrous passes on same motor and knows his stuff. I am sure he will chime in but just throwing it out there of who I would talk with when my car gets the bottle.

I checked out the calculator.. pretty cool stuff.. the 4.11s w/ 28"s would probably work well according to the calculator. My combo right now with the 10 bolt 3.42s runs 125+ mph in the 1/4 with a 2.01 60ft and is 3450lbs with me in it. I am not expecting to pick up more than 15mph with the nitrous at this time but I wouldn't complain if I did.

Seems like an important variable that isn't included or factored in for that calculator is the vehicle's weight though. I would be happy with 4.11s.. Good for the spray and decent enough for some N/A runs too. Like I said the car will be 3150 or less with me in it (205lbs) so what does everyone think?

I ran a similar setup on my camaro and it had a 9" with 4.10 gear. The car was a m6 with a 150 shot plate. It ran great. 10.80's and it was a TR230 cam only setup.

With either a 3.90 or 4.11 you will be fine with a 28 tire. I installed more 4.11's in 6 speed cars than 3.90, I use 3.90 more in auto's.

when you use that for 28 baisply slicks, put in 29; thats what they grow to at speed.
how hast are you planning on going? 4:11s you can go pretty damn fast on 28's.
Ive been to 129 on 4:30s and it was under 6600 because I didn't see my shiftlight. Alex with 4:56s was going 132 and was just lighting up his set at 7200 FYI. I'd run as much gear as you can, it really helps getting a good 60' with the t56 gearing. If you look into really fast for the mods and great ET setups there not going to have some mild gear for the setup.

Well I would like to spin the car to AT LEAST 7000 rpm to a max of 7200 rpm. Just had the motor rebuilt with all new bearings/rings but it still has the stock rod bolts still. I am not opposed to putting in the Katechs, but I am also not opposed to blowing it and going bigger lol.

Good point on putting 29"s in the calculator I didn't think of that. Right now with 10 bolt 3.42s I trap 125 mph. With the 150 shot plate kit I don't plan to see anymore than 15 mph more on a great day, but if I did I'd be ecstatic. So we'll say mid-high 130s.

So it appears the 4.30s will still work for me. Like I said to I plan to work up to the 150 shot. I will be starting with a 100 shot and go from there.

I put 4:10 in mine when I put the bottle on..Iv only made 3 passes and I had some clutch issuse and couldnt launch other than off an idle, and still trapped at 122-124..The hole time I was wishing I would have done 4:30s but I think I just need to get a good pass to see were Im at. If you can spin to 7200 Id go with 4:30s IMO..

Yea I think it would be a good idea if I put the Katechs in at least. I have the trunions already and lightweight valves so valve float isn't really an issue.
