SS wannabe drag car progress!!!!

I'm going to go ahead and edit my original post from 2011 since the car has come leaps and bounds over what was originally intended. After a couple of good outings as a street car on radials I decided to step into heads-up racing and try X275 and Ultra Street. In the last few pages you can see I'm finishing the 25.3, installing a new fabricated housing, and mini-tubing the car with carbon fiber tubs. The power plant at the moment is a 434" LSX engine with a Wilson Manifolds plate that's designed to conform to the Ultra Street rules. I'm looking to have the car together by the end of the year and out racing by the end of February 2014. Thanks to everyone who's provided feedback and commented over the course of two years.

I think 10.50's are there first time out. With some tweaking and tuning I don't see why 10.39's aren't acheiveable. If you really want to get it done put a 200 shot of N20 on there and run 9.90's all day!:D

That's actually the plan after I see how fast it can go on motor. I had spaghetti menders incorporate a progressive controller into the mix so when I spray the car it's easy.

nice car, got any updates?

Thanks, a lot of ideas came from your thread! The car is still at TRZ right now because we are waiting on spaghetti menders to send my wiring harness. Once we get the harness we will mount the relay centers on the dash bar and the switch panel on the overhead bar. Other than that it's pretty much finished except for me running the wires to whatever I need to power. I plan on spraying the car so I got a aerospace bottle bracket that we are going to mount vertically on the passenger side main hoop. I'll be there tomorrow night wrapping up where my steering column sits so I'll take some more pictures.

Edit: I forgot to mention we cut out the entire cowl area inside the car and made the firewall flush except for the part that holds the dash in at the top. TRZ's steering column is mounted to the dash bar now and once the dash is back in you can't even tells it's been done. We blocked off the outside air with some sheet metal and I'm going to paint it the color of the car. If I ever take the motor out I will cut the cowl area on the outside out then smooth the firewall. The top portion of the firewall that's left is being braced with some small tubing running to the dash bar. After cutting out that material I weighed it and I lost right at 9 pounds. It was kind of weird being able to take the wiper transmission out from inside the car.

Here are some crappy iPhone pics and the most recent on is the first with the door bars and the latest on the funny car cage. In the second is when we cut the dash out and since then it's been smoothed even more. Still gotta get some paint on it but it's coming along perfect.

Here's an update of the car's progress. The cage is finished and painted for the most part except for some spots that I need to go over. I painted the subframes the color of the car so they would blend in better. I kept my current torque arm because they are building me a fabricated 9" and I will be using TRZ's torque arm. The Spaghetti Menders wiring harness came in an it looks amazing. The relay centers are mounted on the passenger side dash bar, underhood where the battery use to sit, and in the pasenger side t-top well. Everything has it's own tab with a nut welded on the back and looks very organized. The kit is pretty neat considering I just need to run power, ground, an everything else hooks together with computer cable. I picked up some Alumastar 2.0 fronts that TRZ had laying around the shop. Also, Mike made me a removable bracket that holds my Aerospace Dual Bottle Mount. It mounts to the cage and if you look close in the picture it has a step for me to rest the bottle while bolting it down. Their steering column is working awesome and clears my 1 7/8 headers by a long shot. I had the Kirkey and Racecraft seat brackets powdercoated because the aluminum in the Florida sun is blinding. Finally, I need to wire up the car, install the interior/carpet, and have some fun. I plan on getting the hood painted along with buying Alumastars for the rear once my rearend is finished. I threw everything back in the car including the dash, 1ga wire for the battery, and in the end with the old wiring still in the car it weighed 2625 without me. I figure it should weigh 2650 by the time I remove the old stuff, add carpet, and fill it up with gas. It's about 325 pounds lighter than when it ran 10.89 with a stock 4L60E and stock front suspension. Come cold weather I'm looking for 40's!

Lol! Yeah, I'm sorry that I haven't been keeping this up to date with recent pictures. I saw Josh Schwiers X275 Mustang in the shop an it has a similar setup. After seeing that car I wanted my car done in that fashion because I thought it looked safer and neater. I'm trying to get the rear of the car wired tomorrow so I can put the rear interior in place. I think it's going to look sick once I put the interior in with fresh carpet. I'm just going to use something the shop has that looks similar to Ozite.

I'm excited about the juice. I just got a progressive (NOS launcher) this week an I'm having my intake plumbed for a direct port. Hopefully 5's will come soon!

My friend took some video of the front.

Just curious. Why did you decide on a TH350?

I bought the transmission used at a decent price. Price was 75% of the factor because I sold my 4L60E/converter and only had to invest a couple of hundred bucks in this setup. It's a Rossler Terminator 2 with a Hughes 2.75 first gear, pro-brake, deep pan, vss in the tailshaft, etc. Also, I liked that it would hold my power level and was a little lighter than the TH400.

car runs great, what do you shift at?
