Default Launching a Stalled Auto in D or 1.

Has anyone with a stalled auto, say a yank3600 on a Nitto DR with 3.23-3.42 gears ever launched in 1st?

I've been able to just flash it from a dig and hook in OD and hit a 1.7 60'

After trying to brake torque I notice the wheels spin and the car shifts into 2nd once I let off.

Does anyone brake torque launch but leave it in 1st so that if it spins you can let off a little then make it shift into 2nd? would the little bit of wheel spin be beneficial? Is the run over as soon as it spins or what? I'm just wondering if anyone who has traction limitations launches this way or is it just a waste of time.

My guess is that if I have to let off at all then it's probably no faster than just flooring it right off the line.

its computer controlled on the shifts, put it in D, mat gas pedal, and compliment the car in the other lane on how nice his headlights look in your rear view mirrors via text.

lol

but what if I smash the gas and the car doesnt hook? If it's in D or OD and I let off it is going to shift early. you know what I mean?

It should shift at the predetermined RPM so if you spin it will most likely short shift if you blow the tires off and stay in it. If you can feather it to control spin, you should be good.

If you blow the tires off then it is a wasted run anyway. Just cruise on down and save wear and tear on parts.

How about getting the DR's sticky enough that U dont spin and make a decent pace in D?

I've always started the run in '1' and bumped it up quickly to 'D' on launch once the cars for sure hooked. Heard a rumor from a couple people that putting the car in 1st like this helps to prevent the car from hitting the limiter on either shift. Not sure the truth in this, but I had a car that would always do this, and this method cured it of that

Start your burnout in 1st and quickly shift to 2nd to keep the wheel speed up to get em hotter faster. Had a trans builder tell me once that 1st in the 4l60s isn't too strong and doing burnouts in 1st gear over time will cause issues

no reason to start in 1st...

do the burnout in second start to finish

I have over 3500 passes on mine.
I always do my burn outs in first then shift to second then come out of the burn out. The put it in D and race.

I guess I don't see the reason to shift it into second, it needs to be done instantly...why not just start in second...

to each there own I guess...

Everyone has their own way of doing things, and their own opinion of what works. But what it boils down to is what works best for you. Launching the car in "1" is ok, just make you shift up into "2" or "D" once you are confident you have traction. Likely to hit rev limiter if you don't shift out of 1st well before shift point. If it spins, learn to feather the throttle instead of lifting completely. This will help to eliminate a wasted pass, and you will be able to launch the car in drive and let the computer do its job.

Either that or get a stickier tire for the track and launch it in "D".

Best of Luck!!!

For what it's worth. I start my burnout in 1st, shift up to 2nd, and roll out...just out of habit, more than anything else. It's what I have always done, and being a bracket racer...I need consistency in myself and the car.

It seems most around here do it that way and that is how I was taught. Probley has to do with some of the drag cars when you put it in second then it is in second and never goes to first.

The 4l60 does this stock... the later years anyway, or so I thought. You put it in 2 it is in 2, and will not go into 1.
