Default Budget LT1 race car build!!

Well, I have decided that my 97' will be a track car from now on. No more street at all. This will not be some huge shiny new parts build. Some parts are new. Some are used. I am doing ALL the work myself and everything will be done in my garage.

So far, I have the mods in my sig and a good start on weight reduction. I have a pair of AI heads, comp cam and injectors that are waiting to be put on. Those last 3 were all bought used. I am going to pull my motor and go through it before I take the time to put those on.

I will be running a TH400 w/ a Reverse Manual Valve Body. I currently have a 10bolt w/ 4.56 gears, but hopefully I can get my jimmy sold and buy a friends spooled 12 bolt.

Here are some pictures. This is my first time doing this, so I am open to suggestions!!

Week of 8/10 is week 1.

Speaking of weight reduction, I pulled all of that black crap out of the hatch and it weighed in around 5lbs. The carpet was 38 or 39.

Ya, I had a M6 in her before so, they were not bad. New tranny has not been in the car yet.

How difficult is it to remove the front bumper support, and all that bulky **** on the front that you removed?

I'm doing a long-term race car project too. It's been a great experience, and I wouldn't trade it for the world! I've tried to get good used parts for as much of the build as I can. Congrats on yours, and I hope everything goes smoothly.

Its very easy. And it weighs a lot too. It takes about 30 minutes to take everything off and only a couple tools.

Thanx... Did you get my text today? The tranny showed up and looks great. Can't wait to get things going. But, thats gonna be a while. lol, gotta get things off before things go back on. Winter is coming soon and only a couple more weeks of our race season is left anyway, so I have plenty of time.

I think there is a typo in your original post. You put 10.56 gear, your sig says 4.56. When I read it I was confused at first too

Here it is as of now.... I'm gonna take the motor apart and go through it and make sure I'm not putting junk parts back in. I was a dumbass and when I took my wiper blades off I didn't pay attention and let a large tool slam into my windshield and break it. Parents thought I was hurt seriously cause I was cussing so much

one work bench

What I'm working with... No fancy shop. No air compressor.

Just my garage.

I have had no help with this yet. 100% alone. I will take the block and heads to a shop to have them cleaned up, but thats it. All welding and electronics will be done by myself. I'm sure I will need help sometime, but so far just me. And yes, I'm pretty proud of that. This car will not be the fastest out there, but all the work will be done by myself and my main goal is just to be consistent. Over time it will be fast, I just wanna be able to race competively.... Any questions about things, just hit me up. This is a lot of work, but a lot of fun also.

Ill have to get back to you on the cost. Ill add some things up, cause I dont have an clue right now. And as far as speed? I'll hopefully be in the mid-twelves. Keep in mind this is all at a track which usually had a DA of 6500+
