YES, let's set the record straight. I never knocked anyone's car. I said I don't like gutted race cars. But I see some have a problem with me. Well then, JS's car has plenty of costly weight reduction and still weighs over 3500 lbs w/ him in it. Guess he's sh1t out of luck if he want's to be competitive against those lighter cars. And Bspz28, hey Pete, do me a favor pal. Stop talking caca. You drive your car on the street on a daily basis? NOT. When's the last time you drove your car on the street Pete? You may not recognize my sig, but you and I know each other. Hell, we've even done a brake job on your car at the track. You see folks, some will chime in and start flaming away, even though they're full of caca. Guess we all want to be heard. Flame and lock away. |
that was a quite an immature, jacka$$ post, thank for adding absolutely nothing to this site. There aren't that many people left there, but please go back to ls1.com You'd be one of the wittiest and smartest there  BTW, your'e even slower than me, in an Auto and weigh less, you must really suck at driving! :jest: :drive: Admins to lock in 5.....4.....3.....2..... |
Point is, 3350 lbs isn't a "gutted" car. A "gutted" car weighs 2900-3000 lbs. A 3350 lb car is a good weight for a H/C RACE series. It is a racing series, why have people put $10,000+ in mode to make their cars faster, then weigh them down so any idiot with a $1800 H/C setup can try to be competetive. If ya wanna play, ya gots to pay, period. As far as driveability, you'd probably be surprised how streetable a 10 sec H/C car can be, they're not as bad as you think. You make it sound as though people are running F/S with 2200lb tube chassis, carbon fiber, Pro Stock chassis with LS1s in them. |
:loco: |
Hey Pete might not drive his car daily but, He did drive that car from long island to bowling green ky. to race. BTW My car has no weight reductions done at all, its actually alot heavier then stock now. |
Yea but it has a giant hair dryer and nitrous ;) When u gonna make a run Mike, that baby should rock? |

Raceweight I'm another that agrees with the 3350 raceweight. My 2000 Z28 weighed 3411 with me in it the last race I was at. i had the front swaybar, spare, jack, catback removed, and Prostars on it, oh and I weigh 165. The car had all the power options also. The only thing I was missing was a cage. So, I don't see a problem with most guys getting under 3400 at all. IMO Albert  |
Well everybody is going to have their opinions about weight and what it should or shouldn't be. I like the lighter weights myself because it's easier on drive train parts. I think on a automatic car with the 4L60e tranny, weight is it's worst enemy and is why you see alot of them fail with burnt up clutches etc. I myself am fed up with replacing trannies,The lighter weights help it survive longer than the heavier weights. Just my 2 cents. TJ |
I have a loaded - power everything, you name it - '01 Z28 and it weighs 3350(me in it) with seats, floor mats, change/CD's, spare/jack, etc. removed. I weigh about 180 dressed out. Takes about 10 minutes to pull that stuff out. |
Right now my Car weighs 3080 lbs. by itself. It's a 2002 Camaro SS, I bought it from the dealer fully loaded with T-Tops & power everything. My car is by no means "gutted", I have all interior panels, stock dash, 2 front racing seats, (no backseats), full carpet and a rollcage in the car. My car is setup to race in the LS1 Factory Stock class right now. With me in the car my race weight is exactly 3300 lbs and I still have power windows and locks etc. As far as power goes, I basically have a Heads/Cam car. I have a stock shortblock with only Diamond pistons and ARP rod bolts, everything else is stock. My car runs 10.70's all day. As far as street driving, all I need to do is switch out the slicks for street tires and I can go cruising. I still have full coverage insurance and a valid tag. I have done alot of weight reduction mods most free but alot of $$ ones too. Its not that hard to have a completely stock looking car that weighs 3000 lbs. Lee |
30th TA - "immature, jacka$$" , after reading your post, I must say that describes you in a nut shell. Spanky - since you say it's a racing series to see who's fastest, then why have a minimum weight at all? Duh, I guess it's so all the H/C "idiots" out there weighing in at 3350 lbs can be competitive. Guess I'm just paraphrasing your post. Mike M - And what happened to Pete's car on the way to KY? It broke down. What's the lesson Pete learned from that experience? Street cars should be driven, race cars should be trailered. That's why Pete and his girl went out and bought a Tahoe. Hawkn01 - I'm very impressed with your car and I appreciate the non-flame post. I know less weight is beneficial to the drivetrain, but that's not the main reason you (and others) lightened up your car. You set a goal for yourself, try and beat the bolt-on record. Would I be wrong in assuming that? Congrats by the way. Maybe some of you who are busting my ball$ didn't fully read all of my posts in the "hmm......." thread. I said that if no one wants to change the current weight minimum, then make a new class for H/C cars with a minimum weight of 3600 lbs. Call it a STOCK appearing H/C class. What have you. I've said it before, there's alot of H/C guys/gals out there that have full weight street cars. Why not include these cars in the big races? But I guess everyone who's flamed me believes I got nothing better to do than whine about this. I'm done. But I wonder..... how many people would be whining if for the next race the rules changed and the minimum weight was no longer the "agreed to" ;) 3350 lbs, but say 3000 lbs. I bet there'd be a whole lot of crying going on, and a whole lot fewer racers in the class. |
Silver, I had planned modding my car last winter to compete in the LS1tech series this year in F/S with a H/C combo with an Accel Gen7+. But the rules were not in my favor because they said the Accel gen 7+ wasn't allowed in F/S. Was I pissed, sure I was, but I got over it. I put all the mods on the back burner and decided then that I would stay S/I for the spring and try to reset the record. I was able to obtain that record on my 4th pass down the track this year with nothing more than a MAFT, Timing Tuner, and an HPP3. Pro Stock John and Nineball have tried hard to please everyone with the middle of the road weight limits. Sure, it's made some people upset, but those are the rules everyone has to abide by. This is the first year of the series and I'm sure they will tweak the rules for 2005, but they had to start somewhere. As far as your idea for two Factory Stock classes. I think that would be an awesome idea if they can fit the extra class in the mix of the total raceday game plan. Street F/S and Extreme F/S. I'm all for it ! :D |

Based on your mods silver, I'm not sure why you care. And no race series races at 3600 race weight. 3350 is indeed on the lower end but at SBSO the guy who won F/S weighed 3430, I was weighing the car. That's 200 lighter than stock and you can get to that weight easily. Please support our scene and our series. |
Guess some people believe everything they read, like people's sigs. Right, Unit 213 ;) Try doing a search on my posts. Maybe I don't need to beat my chest and update my sig every other week. |
Hawkn01 - Once again congrats, your car is flying and I hope you hold on to your record for some time. You're a cool dude and I appreciate your input. To everyone else - Just so you all know a little more about me. I've been a gear head since 1986. My first love was the TR. Man could my 1987 Limited Turbo T beat up on those Mustangs back in the day. Nothing was more fun than whoopin on a Mustang in a 3700 lb, vinyl roofed, leather clad 45/45 split bench seat, column shifted 6 banger. I still run into people that recognize me from the Hempstead Tpke days here on LI. They usually start the conversation by saying, "Weren't you the guy who wrote MUSTANGS SUCK in shoe polish on the rear window of your Buick?". Sometimes you gotta push people's buttons when you're trying to get a run driving a Grandma's car. LOL Guess what my next car was? An 1986 notchback 5.0 5 speed LX. I'm funny like that, the more I enjoy racing against a certain type of car, the more I want one. I loved spanking LS1s with my last 2 TRs, so I went out and bought one. I then sold my last 2 TRs. Then, I added an 02 M6 Z to keep my 98 A4 Z company. I've owned 5 TRs, 6 Stangs, and a bunch of other fun cars over the years, and my bank account reflects this. LOL Ask me which one I think is best, and I'll tell you there's no comparison. The LS1. Great looks, powerful, comfortable, great MPG, best all around cars I've ever owned. So don't doubt my support. PS, no my 98 doesn't run 10.0s. LOL |

I'd rather run low 11's at 3450 then 13.4's at 3600, but that's just where I am now. I get bored quickly and need to have a car that is on the edge. Otherwise I trade my car in every two years. |
Lol, unit213, this coming from a guy who turned in his leased LS1 and now drives a Cobra. Why are you still on this BB? Me thinks you need to get a life. You want to bust my ball$ son? How about you and me start our own lil post in the lounge, anything goes. 03 Cobra running 13.2s with a filter and tuning, LOL, my 02 got that beat w/a lid and catback. Guess Mustangs still suck, well at least the ones driven by someone with your skills. I think the best place for your car IS the dyno. ;) Bring that slow junk to NY so I can tell everyone I trimmed up the BIG BAD street racing director. Don't worry, just like on the Price Is Right, you'll get a parting gift. A box of tissues. :D Prostockjohn, my car doesn't run 13.4s any more. I got H/C, guess that's why I'm interested in this racing class. |
