Thumbs up which rear gear ratio for a glide

I recently installed a glide in my car.I have 4;11 gears now and they need to be changed because they are wore out.The last time out and first time out with the glide I went 11.33 @ 121 w/a 1.63 60 ft (N/A)..However I was hitting the rev limiter when crossing the finish line (6900 RPM).I am planing on spraying a 150 shot so different gears are in order....i just dont want to go too high on the ratio so that my 60 ft. goes to sh**...Any suggestions......thanks

So was it faster or slower going from A4 to the Glide?

What about a 3.90 gear?

I would say a 3.08 or maybe a 3.42 but that is just me.

3.73, any more then that will probably hurt it too much for the first 300 ft.

This is going to be close.

It depends a lot on your converter also and who built it and their philosophy in converter strategy.

I hope putting the 3.73 in though doesn't absolutely kill your shift extension from 1-2 which is the only draw back to a glide as that 1-2 shift extension RPM has to be spot on to keep the car in it's powerband.

Fastest time with the built A4 was 11.75.When the glide was installed I also did a fast 90 set-up and a new converter. My 60 ft.didn't change....wish i would have did the glide a long time ago 11.75-11.33=.42....on the 11.33 pas I bounced it off the rev limiter from low to high and @ the line ...so I think it has a 11.2 or so in it N/A just like it is.With the right gears I am hoping for 10 anything N/A.

The converter is 3800 stall ....didn't want too much stall because I was planing on spraying.....was afraid of blowing through.Thinking of doing 3.90's and if that is still too low I'll put a 28 in. tire on it.

3.90 with a 28 should be good, or try the 28 before you change the gearing, that may fix all of it, at least before you spray it

We are running 4.56's to start out with on our LQ9 car.

Only running a 28x11.5x15 ET street (27.6" diam) with the rev limiter set a 7200rpm.

Should be off the rev limiter unless we are trapping more than 130mph.

This helps a little:

I was going to say 3.90 but we don't know how much more you are going to spray, the personality of your converter may be a lot looser with more spray it may only be slightly looser with more spray depending on how it was set-up.

I think with a 3.90 and a 28 you will find balance.

if its an auto setup you need to figure in converter slip.

it plays an important part in the overall speed you can run. you mentioned 130 mph in your other post. through a gear and rpm calculation, yes, but with converter slip, you may only be able to run 120-125 depending on the efficiency of the converter.
