Default New best for near stock Z06 11.81 but costly

I went to National Trails on Saturday for a private track rental. The Z06 is stock except for 4.10's and a 26/11.5/16 ET Street.First pass I went 11.89 with a 1.63 60 ft.2nd pass went 11.83 with a 1.64 60.My 3rd and best pass was a 11.81 with a 1.63 60.On that pass when I powershifted into 3rd the shifter was extremely stiff. Now the tranny will not shift into 3rd or 4th,grinds and squeals when driven in the other 4 gears.I'm thinking the 3-4 shift fork is bent.Even though I broke my car I went home with a smile on my face.I ran a pretty damn good number for a near stock Z in normal(non-mineshaft DA)conditions.I think I have got as much ET out of the stock 356 rwhp as possible.I have to fix it and add some hp to get in the 10's.It was a blast watching Randy Eakin,Lee Howey and some of the other guys running deep in the 7's.I had probably 50 people ask me if I had a bottle or other stuff done. They did'nt believe I could run that strong with a stock engine. The old iron crowd acted like I was lying and I invited all of them to inspect the car. They gave it a casual look over and walked away shaking their heads.People just don't realize how a Z06 will run if you're not afraid of a 65000 rpm leave and powershifting. Most Vette owners don't run them to there full potential.

Nice runs. How bad was the weather? I would have thought that the 4.10 gear would be worth more than that. I ran 11.83 with an air filter and ET Streets , in the middle of summer with a 1.72 60' time and without powershifting.

I really don't think the 4.10's did much.As a matter of fact if I was to do it over I wouldn't have wasted the money on them. The track being in the best condition I have ever ran in probably meant more than anything. It felt like the Nike were going to get pulled off my feet walking on it.Weather was around 60 deg with average humidity and a 15 mph head wind. Most of the fast guys didn't run full passes due to the wind.Butcher that's a great time.
Todd you're right.I have to satisfy my racing fix somehow.

OUTSTANDING, i have the exact same car as you including the color also with 4.10s but am making around 380rwhp as i have longtubes, air intake, tuning, etc. I think those bad boy 4.10s cut about .2 to .3 tenths off your ets and made you Z a consistent bone stock (except for gears) 11 sec. something street machine. How about the traction on the street with the 4.10s, what a joke huh? CONGRATS on what i see are EXCELLENT time and best of luck on your baby's full and speedy recovery! MANY say they believe 4.10s are too much for a z06 with the m12 tranny giving first gear a 4.88 ratio but i say it makes the car A RIOT TO DRIVE!!!!

It did make a fun car more fun.I wouldn't do it again but now that I have them I'm going to enjoy them. The car is going to the dealer tommorrow for a inspection. My wife called and told them the car is shifting kinda funny and needs fixed. It is still under warranty and unmodded (except for the 4.10)so I'm going to let her play the dumb Vette owner role to get it fixed. They said bring it in and we'll give you a free rental if the tech finds the tranny or clutch is bad.I'm eagerly waiting on the verdict from the dealer.

Very nice respectable ET's. Good to see you back at the track again.

I hope to be going to the track again this weekend myself, although I'd rather be ripping pitch

Good luck.

I think it's the tranny. It lasted about 80 passes.I need to get a new shifter to avoid a repeat.I find myself shifting the car hard and on the 2-3 shift I'm over aggressive and end up pushing the shifter too far forward. With a set of big and littles I think a 11.60 is possible.I have drag raced this car 9 times with every trip out being quicker than the one before. It has been alot of fun.

Not much roofing the last few days but the weather is changing for the better tomorrow. Friday the high will be 67 degrees with a low of 43. The DA should be pretty good. I hope I have my gremlins worked out by Friday, if so I'll be heading to the track this weekend.

No I haven't been to National trails yet but I plan to go there and get my NHRA compitition license. National trails is the closest NHRA track for me.

We bid a few major jobs in Columbus and if things go as planned we will be working pretty close to the track It will give me a good reason to visit the job site.
