Launch off idle or brake stall? I've been wondering about this for a while. My '00 Trans Amwill have dot slicks and a small stall. Full bolt ons. What will I see better results from, launching off idle or brake stalling up to around 2400? |
Most see the best results from just taking the slack out... IE 1000 RPMs or so. You have to try every different way to see what your individual setup likes the most however. |
Sweet, I'll just have to try a few different things. |
Every car likes something different. My car would always go about .10 faster just flashing the converter off the line, than if I tried footbraking it. Others go faster footbraking rather than flashing. All depends on your power, weight, gear ratio, converter, etc. |
yep, 12-1300 rpm |
Footbraking is a little easier on parts... IE 10 bolts lol |
1500 gives me the most consistent and best 60fts. Best bet is to spend a test and tune trying different techniques a couple times each. Flashing it hurt my reaction time but it doesn't make a difference if you're running for fun or et. |
For me, just bringing it up to about 1k RPMs and flashing it works best. Yank SS3600 converter, cam only car. |
It's all in what your suspension will let you put to the ground. My edge "3400" which acts more like a 4000, seen better 60' times the higher I stalled it, up until about 16-1700. after that (around 2k) it seemed to get in to the power a little to quick and wanted to spin 5ft out. But, I could footbrake he car to 3k, no problem and still flash it a little I the launch, so it's loose compared to some other mid-3k converters. Generally, if your car 60's better off idle than footbraking it, you're converter is too tight. |
Stall it up as high as it will go...just makes sense if the proper converter is used... The whole point of the converter is to get in the upper rpms faster where it makes more power...so get it up there by brake stalling it higher 1.28 60ft with n/a sbe |
