Default Simple cam only question

Searched and couldn't find a clear answer.

I know the 243s only came on corvettes, but could I be considered "cam only" if I put an unported set on my 02 Trans Am since they're from an LS1?

243s never came on a LS1. They came on the LS2 Corvettes and LS6 C5 ZO6s. So, in my opinion you would no longer be "cam only" if you put 243s on a LS1.

Nope, you swapped the heads. 243's are worth a lot over 41's, even factory.

Never came on an LS1.

Corvette engines that used them would be LS6 and LS2 which would then be called "cam only" LS6 and LS2 respectably.

The 5.3 GXP Gran Prix, and SS Impala also used 243's

Thanks everyone. I don't wanna claim cam only if It's not considered to be. I thought the ZO6 was an LS1 car. My knowledge doesn't stretch too far beyond the f-body.

Not that it matters but didn't they come on LS2 GTO's also?

All this "cam only" and "stock bottom end" crap has a VERY large gray area.
Rod bolts, fly cutting, SBE vs stock cube, bolt on, etc.
Hell, I have no doubt in my mind that a man could pick up half as much as a cam swap, by doing a very nice multi angle valve job, honing the block with a better ring pack, and balancing the rotating assembly. All of which are things you'll never see once its in the car, and there's no NHRA protest/tear down procedure for these Internet "records" either.
"if you ain't cheating, you ain't winning" plain and simple..

Yes, as well as the CTS V's.

I am cam only, w/ stock heads, stock LS6 intake. However I have BBK pulley, cutouts, tune, Volant, ported TB. I'm still considered cam only in the performance world and with the dyno guys.

Please get off your high horse and quite spewing this as gospel... I knew I shouldn't have opened this thread... These labels are all OPINION... cam only could easily be defined as literally only a cam swap.

Its guys like you making a huge deal about labeling yourself "cam only" that make LS guys look dumb. It is pretty common these days to mock LS guys for claiming "cam only"...

Competing for the cam only title is just going to be, who doesn't mind a giant cam, 5000+ stall, powerglide, and every ounce of weight reduction.

Once you decide that is not for you, you turn into the guy with the "Fastest cam only, half suspension, minor weight reduction, street tired, A/C, 1999 NBM Camaro Z28, hardtop, with tan interior, in the western hemisphere, with a mother that lives in oregon, and a son named Jonh"

Congratulations. haha

You read a Cam Only question, now you can't handle an answer or OPINION. Switch to decaf. I'm often told on the dyno, I'm CAM ONLY. It doesn't matter what I think, what you think, etc. It is something they say when you have stock heads, stock internals, stock intake, stock rails, etc......and they are figuring out your tune and rwhp. Cam Only. That's it besides all the other crap everyone else including joe mama have. Regarding your rant, sorry my degree isn't in bullcrap and I have no idea where its going, so put down the pipe. I'm not alone so save your rants; https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-l...-mean-you.html
